Asia accounts for nearly 90% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments from key Middle East producers like Qatar and the UAE, while Europe imports 7-11% of its LNG from the region. During spring 2026 missile and drone attacks, Iranian strikes hit Ras Laffan LNG Trains 4 & 6, and Pearl GTL Train 2. Ras Laffan owner QatarEnergy estimates repairs to the two units will sideline about 12.8 million tonnes per year of LNG capacity for three to five years. Pearl GTL Train 2 co-owners Qatar Energy and Shell (NYSE:SHEL) anticipate the train will require a year-long outage for repairs. According to the Platts Commodities Focus podcast by S&P Global Energy, what began as rising geopolitical tension in the Middle East quickly turned into a supply chain concern, especially once shipping through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted, a key route for Qatari exports. According to Shell's LNG Outlook 2026, global demand for LNG is expected to increase to nearly 700 million tonnes a year by 2050, 65% higher than 2025 levels, as countries continue to prioritize flexible and reliable energy security offered by natural gas and LNG. Will the next generation of liquefied natural gas projects be enough to satisfy blockbuster demand? And who will be the suppliers? Oilprice.com has identified the five largest LNG projects under development. They appear in no particular order. Qatar is moving forward with a major expansion of its North Field gas project. QatarEnergy earlier this year awarded US oilfield services company Baker Hughes (NASDAQ:BKR) a contract for the North Field West Project. The contract covers equipment for two LNG \"mega trains\", including six gas turbines, 12 centrifugal compressors and integrated power systems, which are central to gas liquefaction. According to Euronews, the North Field West project forms part of Qatar's broader strategy to increase LNG production capacity from 77 million tonnes to 142 million tonnes per year once all expansion phases are completed. The NFW phase alone is expected to add around 16 million tonnes per year through two new production lines. QatarEnergy has already awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the project to an international consortium, with first output expected towards the end of the decade. Designed to bring natural gas from Alaska's North Slope to Alaskan and global markets, Alaska LNG is being developed by Glenfarne Group through Glenfarne Alaska LNG. Glenfarne is the 75% owner in partnership with the State of Alaska, which owns 25%. Phase 1 involves construction of a 739-mile, 42-inch pipeline to deliver natural gas from the North Slope to meet Alaska's domestic energy needs. Phase 2 entails construction of the LNG liquefaction facility and related infrastructure in Nikiski, bringing the total pipeline length to 807 miles. This week, my Oilprice colleague Alex Kimani reported that Glenfarne Group is talking to two more potential buyers in a bid to secure offtake agreements for another 3 million metric tons of LNG before the company makes a final investment decision (FID). Glenfarne Group says it requires 80% of its 20-million-ton target capacity covered before making its FID, having secured offtake agreements for more than 13 million tons so far. Story Continues Argentina LNG centers on monetizing vast shale gas reserves from the Vaca Muerta basin via the Gulf of San Mat\u00edas in R\u00edo Negro province. The multi-billion-dollar effort combines a near-term floating LNG (FLNG) project targeted for 2027 with a larger 12-30 mtpa land-and-sea export buildout. Led by a partnership including Pan American Energy and Golar LNG, this smaller project utilizes the Hilli Episeyo FLNG unit. It targets an initial capacity of 2.45 mtpa. State-controlled YPF, alongside partners Eni and UAE-based XRG, is advancing a larger 12 to 30-mtpa venture. Why One Company Is Apologizing, and the Other Isn't BP's profit more than doubled as new CEO Meg O'Neill pushes an aggressive turnaround. She has openly admitted the company has \"not delivered consistently\" in recent years. By contrast, Shell plc (NYSE:SHEL) just posted its best quarter since 2022 while staying the steady course it has followed for years. This marks its 19th straight quarter of buybacks worth at least $3 billion. This makes you question: is BP's admission of past failure, paired with aggressive restructuring, the right way to catch up with steadier rivals like Shell? Or does Shell's consistency prove BP's dramatic reset was never actually necessary?BP p.l.c. (BP) vs. Shell plc (SHEL): Two Oil Majors Cash In on the Iran War, But Tell Different Stories BP's Bull and Bear Case Profit hit $5.73 billion, beating the $5.11 billion analysts expected and more than doubling from a year earlier. BP p.l.c. (NYSE:BP) raised its dividend 4% and cut net debt to $22.25 billion from $25.3 billion, putting it on track to hit its long-term debt target early. O'Neill laid out a clear five-point turnaround plan. Citi said BP has lost its unwanted status as the most indebted of the major oil firms. However, O'Neill herself admitted BP has \"written off too much value\" and that its \"costs and liabilities are not resilient enough\" for a low-price environment. The company is still selling billions in assets, including its U.S. biogas business, its North Sea operations, and its Austrian retail unit, just to fund the turnaround. Total liabilities remain around $40 billion, which O'Neill herself called too high. The stock actually fell about 2% on earnings day, even with the beat, as oil prices dropped on hopes of a U.S.-Iran deal. BP also went through boardroom turmoil this year, removing its chairman over governance concerns. Shell's Bull and Bear Case Adjusted earnings came in at $9.84 billion, beating the $8.92 billion estimate and marking Shell plc (NYSE:SHEL)'s best quarter since 2022. Net debt fell sharply to $41.75 billion from $52.6 billion, and Shell maintained its 19th consecutive buyback of at least $3 billion. Its integrated gas business grew profit 55% even while dealing with a plant outage. CEO Wael Sawan said Shell built a firm designed to \"thrive through volatility.\" Story Continues However, Shell's Pearl gas-to-liquids plant in Qatar has been offline since March after an attack damaged it, costing the company roughly 10% of its total production, with repairs expected to take about a year. Shell still trades at a discount to European rivals like TotalEnergies and Eni, reflecting investor concerns about its long-term upstream growth. Despite this quarter's strong results, Shell's stock gain for the year still trails BP, Exxon, and Chevron. Insider Monkey's Hedge Fund Data Insider Monkey's hedge fund database shows BP p.l.c. (NYSE:BP) had 49 hedge fund holders as of Q1 2026, down from 51 the quarter before, though the dollar value hedge funds held actually rose from about $4.0 billion to $5.78 billion. Shell plc (NYSE:SHEL) had 45 holders, up from 43, with the dollar value held rising from about $4.18 billion to $5.67 billion. Among their U.S. rivals, Exxon had 94 hedge fund holders as of Q1 2026, down from 98, and Chevron had 103, up from 86. BP and Shell both trail the two U.S. majors in total holder count. Conclusion Shell plc (NYSE:SHEL) keeps proving that consistency wins in a volatile market, quarter after quarter of steady buybacks and execution. Despite this, the outlook for the Zacks Oil and Gas - Production and Pipelines industry is gloomy, primarily due to the conservative spending of upstream companies, which is likely to continue hurting the demand for transportation and storage assets. Players in the industry like Kinder Morgan, Inc. KMI, The Williams Companies Inc. WMB and MPLX LP MPLX are well-positioned to sail through the prevailing uncertainties. About the Industry The Zacks Oil and Gas - Production and Pipelines industry comprises companies that own and operate midstream energy infrastructure assets. The properties consist of extensive pipeline networks that transport crude oil, liquids and natural gas. The midstream energy players are also involved in the processing and storing of natural gas. The companies have interests in natural gas distribution utilities, serving millions of retail customers across North America. Some companies are ramping up investments in renewable energy and power transmission businesses. The firms invested in wind farms, solar energy operations, geothermal projects and hydroelectric facilities. Thus, with a diversified portfolio of renewable energy projects, the firms have room to generate extra cash flows in addition to stable fee-based revenues from transportation assets. What's Shaping the Future of Oil & Gas - Production & Pipelines Industry? High Debt Load: The industry is inherently capital-intensive, as evident from the debt-to-capitalization ratio of 58.54%, where borrowing is a common practice to finance large infrastructure projects. However, elevated leverage can constrain financial flexibility, hindering midstream energy companies' capacity to invest in new developments, navigate economic downturns, or address unforeseen costs. Shift to Renewables: Energy majors will increasingly face challenges in providing sustainable energy to the world while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To address the issues of climate change, there will be a gradual shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. This will lower the demand for the partnerships' pipeline and storage networks for oil and natural gas. Explorers' Conservative Capital Spending: Oil and gas exploration and production companies are facing heightened pressure from investors to focus on stockholders' returns rather than production. This is hindering the production growth of commodities, thereby denting the demand for pipeline and storage assets. Story Continues Zacks Industry Rank Indicates Gloomy Prospects The Zacks Oil and Gas - Production and Pipelines is a 10-stock group within the broader Zacks Oil - Energy sector. The industry currently carries a Zacks Industry Rank #182, which places it in the bottom 26% of more than 250 Zacks industries. The group's Zacks Industry Rank, which is the average of the Zacks Rank of all the member stocks, indicates bleak near-term prospects. Our research shows that the top 50% of the Zacks-ranked industries outperform the bottom 50% by a factor of more than 2 to 1. Although the prospects remain unfavorable, we present a few stocks that investors can retain or keep an eye on, given their solid potential. But before that, let us take a look at the industry's recent stock market performance and its current valuation. Industry Lags S&P 500 & Sector The Zacks Oil and Gas - Production and Pipelines industry has underperformed the Zacks S&P 500 Composite and the broader Zacks Oil - Energy sector over the past year. The industry has jumped 17.9% over this period compared with the 22.6% surge of the S&P 500 and the 31.9% surge of the broader sector. Private cellular networks remained a specialist segment during the 2G and 3G eras, with deployments such as GSM-R supporting railway communications. The arrival of private LTE in the early 2010s marked a turning point, led by projects including Rio Tinto's mining network in Western Australia, Tampnet's offshore infrastructure and iNET's 700 MHz network in the Permian Basin. Today, private 5G networks are increasingly replacing LTE across industrial and enterprise environments, creating a market opportunity that significantly exceeds that of previous wireless technology generations. Production-grade private 5G deployments continue to expand among leading manufacturers, mining companies, energy providers, transportation operators and technology businesses. Organizations investing in private wireless infrastructure include Airbus, BASF, Bayer, BMW, BP, Chevron, Ford, Foxconn, Google, Hyundai, Intel, Jaguar Land Rover, John Deere, LG Electronics, Lufthansa, Nestle, PETRONAS, POSCO, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, Walmart, Whirlpool and Xerox. Private 5G networks deliver the throughput, latency, reliability, availability and device density required by advanced industrial applications. Capabilities such as URLLC and mMTC support communications between machines, robots, sensors and control systems, while providing a long-term migration path toward future 6G networks. Wider coverage, scalability, deterministic performance, security and mobility support are also strengthening the case for replacing wired connections and interference-prone unlicensed wireless technologies across industrial IoT environments. Adoption is accelerating as organizations across the United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil increase investment in industrial automation, physical AI and mission-critical communications. Private 5G deployments are now generating measurable improvements in operational efficiency, safety, productivity and cost control. Tesla, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, LG Electronics, Foxconn, Whirlpool, Salzgitter, BASF, Midea, Gree and JD Logistics are among the organizations that have eliminated connectivity-related stoppages after migrating automated guided vehicle and autonomous mobile robot communications from Wi-Fi to private 5G. Jaguar Land Rover, BD SENSORS and other industrial users have also extended reliable connectivity into plant areas where wired Ethernet was previously too costly or complex to install. Story Continues Additional deployments demonstrate the growing business impact of private 5G infrastructure. Fulin Precision has deployed 100 semi-humanoid robots coordinated through a private 5G-Advanced network. Newmont has extended teleremote and autonomous machine operations from 100 meters to 2.5 kilometers at Australian gold mines. CIMPOR has reported annual savings exceeding $1 million per plant through private 5G-enabled predictive maintenance, while Pegatron has reduced factory reconfiguration costs by as much as 50% through a multinational deployment. Public-sector use cases are delivering comparable benefits. Las Vegas has associated its municipal private 5G network with a 90% reduction in wrong-way driving incidents. Mexico City Police has used standalone private 5G to extend immersive virtual reality training sessions from 25 minutes to 1.5 hours while removing the need for officers to carry bulky equipment. Annual investment in private 5G networks for vertical industries is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 34% between 2026 and 2029, surpassing $6.6 billion by the end of 2029. Much of this expansion will come from localized private 5G networks supporting workforce connectivity, automation and AI applications across enterprise campuses and industrial facilities. Shares have been on the move with the stock up 7.5% over the past month. The stock hit a new 52-week high of $324.38 in the previous session. Valero Energy has gained 99% since the start of the year compared to the 28.6% move for the Zacks Oils-Energy sector and the 72.1% return for the Zacks Oil and Gas - Refining and Marketing industry. What's Driving the Outperformance? The stock has a great record of positive earnings surprises, having beaten the Zacks Consensus Estimate in each of the last four quarters. In its last earnings report on July 30, 2026, Valero Energy reported EPS of $12.54 versus consensus estimate of $9.87. For the current fiscal year, Valero Energy is expected to post earnings of $40.62 per share on $141.16 in revenues. This represents a 282.85% change in EPS on a 15.05% change in revenues. For the next fiscal year, the company is expected to earn $29.17 per share on $134.21 in revenues. This represents a year-over-year change of -28.21% and -4.92%, respectively. Valuation Metrics Though Valero Energy has recently hit a 52-week high, what is next for Valero Energy? A key aspect of this question is taking a look at valuation metrics in order to determine if the company has run ahead of itself. On this front, we can look at the Zacks Style Scores, as they provide investors with an additional way to sort through stocks (beyond looking at the Zacks Rank of a security). The individual style scores for Value, Growth, Momentum and the combined VGM Score run from A through F. The idea behind the style scores is to help investors pick the most appropriate Zacks Rank stocks based on their individual investment style. Valero Energy has a Value Score of A. The stock's Growth and Momentum Scores are A and A, respectively, giving the company a VGM Score of A. In terms of its value breakdown, the stock currently trades at 8X current fiscal year EPS estimates, which is not in-line with the peer industry average of 8.3X. On a trailing cash flow basis, the stock currently trades at 15X versus its peer group's average of 8.9X. Additionally, the stock has a PEG ratio of 0.21. This is good enough to put the company in the top echelon of all stocks we cover from a value perspective, making Valero Energy an interesting choice for value investors. Zacks Rank We also need to consider the stock's Zacks Rank, as this is even more important than the company's VGM Score. Fortunately, Valero Energy currently has a Zacks Rank of #2 (Buy) thanks to rising earnings estimates. Story Continues Since we recommend that investors select stocks carrying Zacks Rank of 1 (Strong Buy) or 2 (Buy) and Style Scores of A or B, it looks as if Valero Energy fits the bill. Thus, it seems as though Valero Energy shares could still be poised for more gains ahead. How Does VLO Stack Up to the Competition? Shares of VLO have been soaring, and the company still appears to be a decent choice, but what about the rest of the industry? One industry peer that looks good is HF Sinclair Corporation (DINO). DINO has a Zacks Rank of #1 (Strong Buy) and a Value Score of A, a Growth Score of A, and a Momentum Score of B. Earnings were strong last quarter. HF Sinclair Corporation beat our consensus estimate by 20.96%, and for the current fiscal year, DINO is expected to post earnings of $11.85 per share on revenue of $32.52 billion. Shares of HF Sinclair Corporation have gained 2.9% over the past month, and currently trade at a forward P/E of 7.22X and a P/CF of 8.46X. The Oil and Gas - Refining and Marketing industry is in the top 14% of all the industries we have in our universe, so it looks like there are some nice tailwinds for VLO and DINO, even beyond their own solid fundamental situation. A surge in crude oil prices, combined with underperformance across key technology stocks, further pressured the broader market. In an environment marked by heightened geopolitical volatility and macro uncertainty, pivoting to financially resilient companies \u2014 specifically low-leverage stocks backed by strong balance sheets \u2014 offers a prudent defensive strategy for equity investors. These fiscally conservative companies are better positioned to navigate interest rate fluctuations and geopolitical uncertainty. By providing a stable foundation in a shifting market, they can serve as a strategic hedge against a potential energy-driven economic slowdown. We recommend low-leverage stocks, such as LifeStance Health Group LFST, Tutor Perini TPC, Valero Energy VLO, SharkNinja, Inc. SN and Lumentum LITE. Before selecting low-leverage stocks, it is important to understand what leverage is and how investing in low-leverage companies can benefit investors. What's the Significance of Low-Leverage Stocks? In finance, leverage refers to the use of borrowed capital to support business operations and drive expansion. Companies typically raise such funds through debt financing, although equity financing remains an alternative. However, firms often prefer debt due to its relatively lower cost and easier availability compared to issuing equity. Debt financing comes with inherent risks and is beneficial only when it generates returns that exceed the cost of borrowing. To limit downside risk, investors should be cautious of companies that rely excessively on debt. Prudent investing involves selecting businesses with manageable leverage, as completely debt-free companies are rare. The equity market can be volatile at times. As an investor, if you want to avoid significant losses, we suggest focusing on stocks with low leverage, which are generally deemed less risky. To identify such stocks, several leverage ratios have historically been developed to measure the amount of debt a company carries. The debt-to-equity ratio is among the most widely used financial ratios. Analyzing Debt/Equity Debt-to-Equity Ratio = Total Liabilities/Shareholders' Equity This metric is a liquidity ratio that indicates the amount of financial risk a company bears. A lower debt-to-equity ratio suggests improved solvency for a company. Story Continues With the second-quarter 2026 earnings season almost in its last lap, investors should focus on stocks that have demonstrated solid earnings growth in recent periods. If a stock carries a high debt-to-equity ratio during an economic downturn, its seemingly strong earnings could quickly turn into a nightmare. The Winning Strategy Considering the aforementioned factors, it would be prudent to choose stocks with a low debt-to-equity ratio to ensure steady returns. Yet, an investment strategy based solely on the debt-to-equity ratio might not fetch the desired outcome. To select stocks with the potential to provide steady returns, we have expanded our screening criteria to include additional factors. Trump told reporters, \"Chevron, too much money. ExxonMobil, too much. Too much money,\" demanding the companies \"give some of that back to the public.\" Why Record Profits Just Became a Political Problem Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)'s earnings soared nearly 400% to $12 billion, and ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation (NYSE:XOM)'s more than doubled to $14.5 billion, both driven by crude prices that jumped after the U.S. and Israel struck Iran in February and Tehran retaliated by threatening the Strait of Hormuz. Gasoline prices have climbed nearly 40% since the war began, a real problem for Trump heading into November's midterm elections. Earlier Monday, Trump also publicly criticized Chevron CEO Mike Wirth on social media for not crediting his administration during a Fox News interview, writing that without \"the genius, foresight, strength, and stability\" of his administration, the oil industry \"would be DEAD.\" This makes you wonder: Is Trump's political pressure a real threat to these huge oil profits, or just pre-election talk while prices are already sliding on hope the Iran conflict ends soon?ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation (XOM) vs. Chevron Corporation (CVX): Trump Attacks the Oil Giants for Making \"Too Much Money\" For illustration purposes only. Photo by Kayden Moore on Pexels Chevron's Bull and Bear Case Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)'s quarterly profit was its highest in at least six years, and the company's return to Venezuela stands out as a genuine growth story: it stayed in the country through nationalization in 2007 while Exxon and ConocoPhillips both exited, and Trump himself noted Chevron is \"back, far bigger and stronger than ever before.\" However, Chevron shares fell about 2% after Trump's comments Monday, and the company now faces direct presidential pressure to cut prices even as it posts record results. Being singled out by name is a real reputational risk few oil executives want. Exxon's Bull and Bear Case ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation (NYSE:XOM)'s profit more than doubled year over year, showing just how much the Iran-driven price spike has boosted the industry's biggest player. The company still makes huge amounts of cash, even without a big comeback story like Chevron's. Still, Exxon shares also slipped after Trump's remarks. Unlike Chevron, Exxon left Venezuela in 2007, leaving it with fewer growth options besides high oil prices, which just dropped 5% on Monday as Iran tensions eased. Story Continues Insider Monkey's Hedge Fund Data Insider Monkey's hedge fund database shows Chevron had 103 hedge fund holders as of Q1 2026, up from 86 the quarter before, with the dollar value hedge funds held rising from about $26.3 billion to $29.6 billion. ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation (NYSE:XOM) had 94 holders, down from 98. Among refining peers, Valero had 67 holders, up from 65, and Marathon Petroleum had 54, down from 64. Chevron draws more hedge fund interest than Exxon and both refiners. Conclusion Both companies just posted some of their best results in years, but the same war that delivered those profits has now put a target on their backs in Washington. Neither company controls how long that political pressure or the high oil prices behind it will last. Overall, Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) wins since it draws more hedge fund interest than Exxon. See which could impact your investment. How these new contracts feed into the Siemens Energy investment story Siemens Energy's Narrative centres on turning strong order intake in gas and grid into durable earnings, while managing policy, cost and execution risks. These new AI data center and Petrobras FPSO contracts sit right in the middle of that tension. Robust order growth, secular energy transition trends, operational turnarounds, and a healthy financial position all support sustained profitability, resilience, and long-term value creation... Read the full Siemens Energy narrative to see the case behind these numbers On the bullish side, the 1 GW data center turbine deal reinforces the Narrative that gas power contracts can benefit from surging electricity demand, alongside secular electrification themes. The Petrobras related work in Brazil aligns with the idea of diversified international order intake, which can support utilisation of Siemens Energy's installed base and service potential. On the bearish side, both agreements add to an already large backlog that the Narrative flags as a possible source of working capital strain and execution risk. Large, complex projects in Brazil and power hungry data centers can also expose Siemens Energy to policy changes and input cost pressures, similar to what competitors like General Electric and Mitsubishi Power face. The takeaway is that the same contracts can look like proof of the bull case or fuel for the bear case, depending on which Siemens Energy Narrative you lean toward. The company remains well positioned for long-term growth, supported by its strong production growth, helped by the Hess acquisition, Permian expansion and Gulf of America operations. The Hess integration is progressing well, while cost efficiencies and lower capital intensity should improve resilience. Chevron is also expanding into data-center power, creating a potential new source of long-term growth. However, the company remains highly sensitive to oil and gas prices, while weaker refined-product demand could pressure its downstream business. Chevron's premium valuation limits the scope for further upside, and geopolitical disruptions could affect operations. Low U.S. natural gas prices and delays in international projects add further uncertainty. Hence, investors are advised to wait for a better entry point. Management attributed the record performance to disciplined value-chain optimization \u2014 integrating crude sourcing, refinery operations, logistics and commercial execution to maximize profitability across every barrel processed. This strategy helped the company generate $6.7 billion in Refining & Marketing (R&M) adjusted EBITDA during the second quarter of 2026, while the metric reached $ 8.5 billion in total. More importantly, MPC achieved the lowest level of unplanned refinery downtime this decade, highlighting the role of operational reliability in sustaining strong earnings. The integrated model produced tangible operating benefits. MPC processed nearly 3 million barrels per day during the quarter, with systemwide refinery utilization reaching 94% and Gulf Coast utilization touching 100%. R&M EBITDA reached $24.84 per barrel, supported by crude optimization, improved jet fuel yields and strong domestic and export demand. The company's refining capture rate climbed to 112%, reflecting its ability to source advantaged crude, optimize feedstocks and align planning, commercial and operational activities across the refining network. Extensive pipeline and logistics infrastructure also limited exposure to higher-priced Brent-linked crude during the Middle East disruptions, preserving margins while competitors faced greater feedstock cost pressure. Marathon Petroleum also strengthened its competitive position through targeted investments rather than large-scale capacity additions. During the quarter, the company completed two high-return refining projects. The Robinson refinery investment adds roughly 10,000 barrels per day of incremental jet fuel production, while the El Paso project enhances specialty gasoline yields for attractive regional markets. Management expects both projects to generate returns exceeding its 25% investment hurdle, demonstrating how incremental operational improvements can enhance profitability without materially increasing capital intensity. How Does MPC Compare With Peers? Among independent refiners, San Antonio, TX-based Valero Energy Corporation VLO continues to emphasize operational excellence through its highly complex refinery system and disciplined cost management. Like Marathon Petroleum, Valero Energy benefits from processing discounted crude grades and maximizing product yields across its integrated refining network. However, Marathon Petroleum's extensive logistics footprint and coordinated value-chain optimization strategy increasingly differentiate its ability to capture additional margin opportunities. Story Continues Phillips 66 PSX is pursuing a similar strategy through refinery optimization and commercial integration while expanding its Midstream and Marketing businesses to improve earnings resilience. Although Phillips 66 has invested heavily in operational efficiency and portfolio optimization, Marathon Petroleum's second-quarter performance suggests its integrated planning, logistics and commercial execution delivered particularly strong margin capture during a volatile refining environment. Rather than relying solely on supportive refining margins, Marathon Petroleum demonstrated that disciplined execution across its integrated value chain can materially enhance profitability. While refining conditions will inevitably fluctuate, the company's focus on operational reliability, advantaged crude sourcing and high-return refinery improvements may provide a durable competitive advantage through future market cycles. MPC's Stock Performance, Valuation and Earnings Prospects Over the past year, Marathon Petroleum's stock gained 102%, outperforming the Oil Refining & Marketing sub-industry's 71.7% increase. However, Valero Energy led the group with a 139% gain, while Phillips 66 advanced 82.4% over the same period.Zacks Invest", "date_published": "2026-08-11T14:12:00+00:00", "authors": [{"name": "finance.yahoo.com"}], "tags": ["Market update", "VLOE34"], "_sharemaestro": {"country": "Brazil", "coverage": "Provider-linked mention", "market_context": null, "companies": [{"symbol": "VLOE34", "name": "Valero Energy Corporation", "sentiment_url": "https://sharemaestro.com/sentiment/22e9c529-b5ba-4573-8698-120709068780/"}]}}, {"id": "source:9eed54caf338e362b40abed16c677a09a43fa5566cdca9a69e1d7ff2a701bf16", "url": "https://finance.yahoo.com/energy/articles/delek-us-q2-earnings-beat-141000713.html", "external_url": "https://finance.yahoo.com/energy/articles/delek-us-q2-earnings-beat-141000713.html", "title": "Delek US Q2 Earnings Beat Estimates on Strong Refining Margins", "content_text": "Delek US Holdings, Inc.
