Kroger (NYSE: KR) said his 20-plus years of experience building and scaling successful e-commerce businesses will help improve the online shopping experience for customers and sales. Faust co-founded Jet.com, a mass merchandise marketplace, which was bought by Walmart in 2016. As Jet's chief operating officer, he led first-party merchandising, replenishment, fulfillment and customer service. He also is credited with launching the innovative Smart Cart model that rewarded customers with lower prices for shopping more efficiently. At Walmart, Faust served as senior vice president, U.S. e-commerce supply chain, where he led a multi-year transformation of the customer delivery experience, according to a Kroger news release. Earlier in his career, Faust was an executive at Diapers.com, where he built what was considered a very fast fulfillment and delivery network for its time \u2014 offering free one-and-two-day shipping nationwide and same-day delivery in key markets. \"Nate built businesses that redefined what customers expect from eCommerce, built on speed, value and the experience of getting exactly what the customer ordered,\" said Foran. \"That is the standard we are holding ourselves to as we grow our digital business.\" Foran was hired as CEO in February. He worked with Faust at Walmart, where he worked for nine years as the CEO of China, Asia and then U.S. operations. Brittain Ladd, an e-commerce logistics expert, praised the Faust appointment on LinkedIn. \"Foran, has once again proved that he is raising the bar on talent across the company. Foran is also proving that he's not protecting the status quo, and that he is determined to make Kroger a better company,\" he wrote. \"Kroger has a massive e-commerce opportunity. Nate is the person who can turn the opportunity into a reality.\" After leaving Walmart, Faust founded Olive, an online shopping site that supported brands like Rent the Runway. He ran the company from 2020 to 2023. Faust holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an undergraduate degree from Princeton University. Ladd surmised that Faust will focus on several initiatives, including leveraging a partnership with AI-powered logistics platform Nash aimed at replacing Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats, with Kroger's own delivery capability. That effort should also involve working with Autolane, which orchestrates autonomous vehicles for pickups, deliveries and rideshares, something Kroger's biggest competitors are already pursuing. Story Continues Kroger also has an opportunity to partner with restaurants and other retailers on a host of online pickup and delivery options, Ladd added. Faust could also turn Kroger's retail media into the engine that subsidizes delivery rather than being a separate profit line \"that sits next to a struggling fulfillment business. Right now, ad revenue and delivery costs are managed as two different profit-and-loss categories,\" Ladd said, pointing to Amazon as an example of how ad revenue directly funds shipping. Another priority will be figuring out how to improve the strategic relationship with U.K.-based online grocery platform Ocado and how to test purpose-built robots, likely from Blue Collar Robotics, to fulfill online orders from inside stores. Release Date: August 11, 2026 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points Record net sales of $21.7 million, up 8.5% year-over-year, with gross margin expanding 260 basis points to 48.3%. Strong growth in core U.S. foodservice and international segments, with international achieving its largest quarter of shipments in company history. New national account wins, including Smoothie King (1,300 locations) and Wonder, expanding product reach beyond traditional Italian menus. Successful retail expansion through partner brands, securing national distribution at Walmart and Kroger for prepared meals featuring Armanino sauces. Debt-free balance sheet with $27.3 million in cash, funding a $20 million new facility investment without external capital, while continuing shareholder returns. Negative Points Operating expenses increased $1.3 million year-over-year, driven by strategic investments and facility-related costs, pressuring GAAP operating income growth to just 1.4%. GAAP net income was flat at $4.9 million, with EPS growth only $0.01, as higher expenses offset revenue gains. New facility in Mountain House will incur significant non-operational costs (e.g., accelerated depreciation, rent, retention bonuses) that will weigh on GAAP results through 2027. Management expects margin compression as national accounts and international business scale, potentially lowering overall gross margins from current 48%+ levels. Growth from new channels (retail, national accounts, international) is still nascent, with meaningful volume contribution not expected until 2027, creating near-term uncertainty. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 5 Warning Signs with UAMY. Is AMNF fairly valued? Test your thesis with our free DCF calculator. Q: Can you help us understand the opportunity over the medium term for the retail channel? How big of a channel could this be for you, and how are you attacking it internally?A: Deanna Jurgens (President and CEO) explained that this is a \"huge win\" for the company. She clarified that previously, Armanino was in the frozen food aisle, which wasn't intuitive for consumers. The new strategy pivots to partnering with industrial brands that are already in stores utilizing prepared foods, making it more intuitive to be in the prepared meals section. The company is using its existing sales force and a dedicated broker for the retail channel, and is excited about the early wins and focused on accelerating through similar opportunities. Story Continues Q: What are your expectations for growth going forward? Might we see growth accelerate as soon as the back half of this year, and how should we think about margins from these new channels?A: Deanna Jurgens (President and CEO) stated that national accounts are showing \"green shoots\" with customers like Smoothie King and Wonder, but significant volume isn't expected until the second half. International had a fantastic quarter, but new countries are expected to contribute more meaningfully in 2027. For 2026, the core U.S. foodservice business and secondary sauces will be the main top-line drivers. While national accounts and international may cause slight margin compression, the company expects more absolute margin dollars due to accelerated top-line growth. Q: How much of the growth during the quarter came from core pesto usage versus secondary sauces? Was there any secondary sauce contribution during the quarter?A: Deanna Jurgens (President and CEO) confirmed that secondary sauces are now north of 10% of total sales and continuing to grow. She highlighted the incrementality of items like Calabrian chili, roasted red bell pepper, and Southwest chipotle, which become an \"and\" item rather than an \"or\" item on menus. The company is seeing very strong growth of secondary SKUs year to date. At the same time, political pressure on pricing and pharmacy related challenges can weigh on margins and perceived risk. Walmart passes only 2 of 6 valuation checks, so on the broader scorecard the stock does not screen as a clear bargain. The issue now is whether Walmart's recent share price leaves enough room between market expectations and intrinsic value to justify taking on fresh exposure at current levels. Walmart delivered 10.2% returns over the last year. See how this stacks up to the rest of the Consumer Retailing industry. Does Walmart Look Pricey on Cash Flow? The Discounted Cash Flow model projects Walmart's future cash generation and discounts it back to today. For Walmart, the latest twelve month free cash flow sits at about $15.2b, and the model assumes these cash flows keep growing over time rather than shrinking. Based on these inputs, the 2 Stage Free Cash Flow to Equity model arrives at an estimated intrinsic value of about $93.94 per share. This is around 20.6% below the current share price, which suggests the stock may be overvalued within this framework. Recent political pressure around pricing and pharmacy economics, including scrutiny linked to cost of living debates, helps explain why investors may be paying a premium for perceived resilience even as the cash flow based value signal appears cautious. On this cash flow view, Walmart stock currently screens as overvalued compared with its estimated intrinsic value. Our Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis suggests Walmart may be overvalued by 20.6%. Does Walmart Look Fairly Valued on Earnings? The P/E ratio is a useful way to think about what you are paying for each dollar of Walmart earnings. Walmart currently trades on a P/E of about 39.6x, which is materially higher than the Consumer Retailing industry average of 20.0x and also above the peer group average of 26.0x. Story Continues The fair P/E ratio for Walmart, based on its size, margins, industry and risk profile, is estimated at 41.0x. That is close to the current multiple, which suggests the stock is pricing in expectations that are roughly in line with what this framework implies, even though it sits at a clear premium to the broader sector. Video Transcript 00:00 Speaker A Q2 is the kickoff of back to school. Back to school drives so much that spend. We think about back to school as the first of three different seasons for shopping, right? So back to school leads us into the fall where Halloween, followed by Thanksgiving, followed by Christmas. All we're seeing right now is that because we're not buying homes and we're not buying cars as we used to, we have some disposable income to spend on something, spend on the kids. So we're holding up the economy because consumer feels good about their spend. In spite of all the tariff talks we heard for about the past year, that really hasn't dampened spending because we don't think the retailers have passed all that spend, all that expense to the consumer. So for the moment, consumer looks resilient. We've heard that for three years now, the resilient consumer. Nothing is showing us that whether there's a trade of war moves war, whether there's Ukraine or whether it's tariffs, that's gotten the consumer bugged enough to stop spending. So for now, good. 00:54 Speaker B Do you did you in Nave in the data, did you detect any differences though between low, middle, high when you're looking at at that consumer? 01:03 Speaker A In terms of consumer spend by by segment? Exactly. Well, I think for the last year or so, we've been all talking about the fact that the top 10% of the US consumer represents about 50% of retail spend. That's not changing. We don't see that changing, but what we do see is how they're spending. Now they're spending on getting quality and quantity. They're marrying the two together. So for example, look, Walmart's been the leader in giving consumers the best options at the best prices, but quality goods as well. What we're seeing is Walmart is getting more and more of that share every year. What we're also seeing is that Target now is catching up. They've spent a lot of money on store improvements, the store looks great, the shopping experience is great. We're now seeing Target actually giving Walmart a bit of competition which they weren't last. Why? Consumers want options. It's healthy for consumers to have options where to shop. I think that's why we're seeing consumers shop, they've got good quality options. Can The Stock Catch Up?", "content_text": "Walmart (NYSE:WMT) just made its boldest move yet to turn shopping data into ad dollars. On August 4, the retailer completed its acquisition of Vibe.co, a self-service streaming TV advertising platform founded in 2021. The deal folds into Walmart Connect, the company's US commerce media arm, giving advertisers of any size an easier way to plan, buy, and measure streaming TV campaigns tied directly to shopping behavior. It is a logical next step for a company whose core business has been strong all year, even as its stock has struggled to reflect that strength.Walmart (WMT) Bets On Streaming Ads. Can The Stock Catch Up? Bull Case: A Retail Giant Quietly Building New Muscle The timing lines up with real momentum elsewhere in the business. Walmart's most recent quarter showed revenue up 7% to 7.3% year-over-year, with comparable sales climbing 4% and e-commerce surging 26%, while adjusted operating income rose 5% and adjusted EPS increased 8%. Advertising has become one of the fastest-growing pieces of that story, with ad revenue up 37% in the same period, a pace that makes the Vibe.co acquisition look less like a side bet and more like reinforcement of an engine already firing. Add in a business model built to hold up in tougher economies, since shoppers tend to lean harder on low prices and discounts when budgets tighten, and Walmart also carries the distinction of a Dividend King, having raised its payout for more than 50 consecutive years while growing that dividend by about 6% annually over the past five years. Bear Case: The Multiple Investors Can't Quite Swallow None of that has translated into share price gains this year. Walmart hit an all-time high of $135.16 on May 18, then fell roughly 17% to a low of $108 by July 23, leaving the stock up only about 1% year-to-date, well behind double-digit gains at Target and Costco. Valuation is the likely culprit. The forward price-to-earnings ratio touched a five-year high of 48 on April 30 before settling near 38 to 39, still above the stock's 10-year average of roughly 32 and its own five-year average of 27. Price-to-sales tells a similar story at 1.24, versus a five-year average of 0.83. Guidance has not helped the case either. Full-year targets were left unchanged after the last report but came in below analyst estimates, and Walmart flagged higher fuel costs along with pressure on lower-income shoppers heading into its second quarter. Those pressures have not obviously eased, which tempers hopes that the August 20 earnings report will bring the guidance boost some investors are counting on. Story Continues What The Smart Money Is Signaling Hedge fund ownership slipped from 114 funds to 99 in the most recent quarter, a pullback that suggests some institutional trimming rather than fresh conviction. Short interest, meanwhile, sits at just 1.68% of float, which points to very little organized bearish positioning against the stock. A forward P/E of 38.61, as of August 11, shows the market is still pricing in meaningful growth despite the pullback in shares. Where This Leaves Investors Walmart heads into its August 20 earnings report with a widening advertising business, a growing e-commerce engine, and a fresh streaming ad platform in Vibe.co, all while its stock sits well off its highs. For the bulls, continued advertising growth and any sign of easing consumer pressure would help justify the current multiple. UPS (NYSE: UPS) needs to convince the Teamsters union that the current Cadillac-wage structure enshrined in the 2023 contract is unsustainable and the vast majority of parcel delivery jobs will disappear as customers flee to cheaper alternatives, said Satish Jindel, the president of ShipMatrix Inc., at a supply chain conference organized by Ohio-based Jarrett Logistics. As the only unionized private parcel carrier, UPS has a greater challenge than FedEx (NYSE: FDX) in stemming the loss of B2C delivery business to large retailers like Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Walmart (NASDAQ: WMT), and startup couriers. Teamsters drivers cost about $65 per hour \u2014 total compensation when all healthcare and other benefits are included with the $49 hourly rate for senior drivers \u2014 compared to FedEx drivers who earn about $35 to $39 per hour on average. UPS's direct hourly wage is roughly 20% to 28% higher at the experienced-driver level, according to a contract comparison by LJM, a parcel spend management firm. Regional carriers that heavily rely on contract fleets or gig workers spend about $15 per hour, or less, on last-mile delivery drivers, experts say. UPS will trigger a massive market reaction in August 2028, whichever way it deals the Teamsters, said Jindel, an outspoken industry observer and former executive at FedEx Ground's predecessor whose company now tracks shipping data and helps businesses optimize carrier partnerships. Labor clash looms as inflection point UPS could end up dominating the market if it takes a hard stand against the powerfulTeamsters, which represents about 330,000 company employees. Conversely, giving in to worker demands and not lowering its cost to serve, would cause the logistics giant's parcel business to wither away, said Jindel, according to notes of his presentation provided by an attendee at the Cleveland event. The carrier \"will have to offer much lower pay and require them to allow use of the Roadie platform for residential deliveries, or let them strike,\" he said. In a November commentary, Jindel urged UPS to adopt a hybrid delivery model in which Roadie handles last-mile delivery of e-commerce shipments from thousands of UPS Stores while Teamster drivers, operating large package vans, provide middle-mile transport from regional sortation hubs to the UPS Store. Story Continues UPS acquired Roadie, which uses crowd-sourced drivers who supply their own vehicles, to handle urgent same-day, grocery and oversize shipments from local retailers that don't move through the traditional automated sorting network. The Teamsters for months have publicly called out UPS for improperly steering shipments to non-union Roadie in violation of its contract. The union alleges Roadie uses UPS labels, tracking and equipment, but provided no concrete evidence Roadie is taking work from Teamster drivers. \"If they strike, UPS should be prepared to replace the drivers with non-union workers hired from FedEx independent contractor base and Amazon delivery service providers, which in turn will drastically reduce the workforce for its two main competitors,\" Jindel argued. And it should lean more heavily on the Roadie network and its gig workers to minimize the strike's impact, he added. \"The result will be that UPS can dominate the parcel market like it did in the 1990s.\" In a follow-up phone interview, Jindel said \"FedEx and Amazon won't be able to handle the volume during the disruption and UPS will own the parcel market. But if they extend the contract they will not be able to compete with the others at half the hourly rate, or less, with the gig wo", "date_published": "2026-08-11T16:46:56+00:00", "authors": [{"name": "finance.yahoo.com"}], "tags": ["Market update", "WMT"], "_sharemaestro": {"country": "Germany", "coverage": "Provider-linked mention", "market_context": null, "companies": [{"symbol": "WMT", "name": "Walmart Inc.", "sentiment_url": "https://sharemaestro.com/sentiment/954ee534-fba8-4bad-9001-cec1bd58894a/"}]}}, {"id": "source:455be49ac78962f34209feea7efd806a5ed46e7385bd6e3804e1a48190f6f7fa", "url": "https://finance.yahoo.com/m/f039f337-296b-389d-be7a-941fa3ce3a4f/walmart-earnings-are-due..html", "external_url": "https://finance.yahoo.com/m/f039f337-296b-389d-be7a-941fa3ce3a4f/walmart-earnings-are-due..html", "title": "Walmart Earnings Are Due. Over 7 million investors trust Simply Wall St to stay informed where it matters for FREE. Walmart (NasdaqGS:WMT) is taking a higher profile in US economic policy as former CEO Doug McMillon joins a new Federal Reserve task force focused on real time retail data and AI. The Fed group is expected to explore how large scale transaction data from retailers could inform future monetary policy signals and economic monitoring. At the same time, US presidential candidates are increasing public pressure on major retailers, including Walmart, over pricing practices and the perceived impact on household budgets. These moves put Walmart closer to the center of policy debates that may influence how it sets prices, manages data and communicates with regulators and voters. For readers tracking how politics, inflation concerns and hard assets are converging, the broader theme of policy sensitive inflation hedges is worth a closer look through 29 elite gold producer stocksNasdaqGS:WMT 1-Year Stock Price Chart Walmart sits at the center of US consumer spending, which keeps its stock closely watched when politics and household budgets intersect. The shares trade at about $112.66, with the stock up 9.3% over the past year and 117.5% over three years. That kind of move has pushed Walmart further onto the radar of investors who track both policy risk and large cap retail exposure. Does the team leading Walmart have what it takes? See our full breakdown of the management team's track record and compensation. Walmart's policy reach meets its AI and data profit story The central bet in Walmart's Narrative is that its scale, omni-channel reach and AI-powered data capabilities help shift profit pools toward higher-margin services and advertising. This policy moment puts a spotlight on how credible that data-led story really is. \"Expansion of high-margin business streams such as Walmart Connect, marketplace, and Walmart+ memberships is diversifying Walmart's income base beyond retail, gradually transforming the company's profit mix...\" Read the full Walmart narrative to see the case behind these numbers Doug McMillon's seat on the Fed's data task force speaks directly to the AI and data-profit catalyst. It reinforces the idea that Walmart's transaction data and analytics are not just operational tools but a potential profit pool in their own right, in line with the Narrative's focus on higher-margin businesses such as Walmart Connect. That sits alongside a stream of new category launches across health, wellness and family products, which deepen the data set the Narrative leans on. Story Continues The pressure point is different. Presidential scrutiny of pricing touches a key risk already in the Narrative, where tariff and cost shocks can force Walmart to choose between passing on higher prices or accepting thinner margins. That political lens may limit how far Walmart can lean on pricing to support profitability, especially compared with Amazon or Target, and instead may push it further toward data, advertising and memberships to do the heavy lifting. What this news does not resolve is whether international e-commerce and logistics costs, which the Narrative flags as a drag, can be brought under control while policy involvement and political visibility rise.
