Intel's $20B capital raise likely removes overhang, UBS says
Intel's (INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]) $20B capital raise announcement [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4630452-intel-upsizes-stock-offering-to-20b-prices-at-95] this week likely removes any overhang from the stock, investment firm UBS said on Wednesday. “When combined with pre-payments and financial commitments that we expect to accompany several forthcoming foundry deals (Google for EMIB-T, AAPL for M-Series, AMD, SPCX, and potentially a few more), we believe the raise will allow INTC to fund its foundry buildout,” UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri wrote in a note to clients. “Overall

Why Intel (INTC) Stock Is Down Today
What Happened? Shares of computer processor maker Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) fell 3.7% in the morning session after the company announced a plan to issue $15 billion in common stock. This move is expected to increase the total number of shares available, which can dilute the ownership stake of existing shareholders. When a company issues new stock, each existing share represents a smaller percentage of the company, often putting downward pressure on the stock price. The market's reaction reflects concerns over this potential dilution of value for current investors, as a larger supply of shares enters

Why Intel’s $20 Billion Stock Offering Is Actually a Great Sign for the Company
Shares of Intel have been under pressure this week since the chip maker announced a $20 billion stock offering. UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri wrote Wednesday that Intel’s $20 billion stock offering will “remove an overhang” for the stock as it will allow the chip maker to fund its foundry buildout. The stock offering will provide “bridge” funding through 2027 and 2028 for Intel, Arcuri wrote. Continue Reading

Intel Did Much Worse Than Super Micro Computer But Both Got Punished
Quick Read Intel (INTC) posted its strongest revenue growth in 15 years and Supermicro (SMCI) nearly doubled revenue, yet both stocks fell hard after earnings. Intel diluted existing shareholders by roughly one-fifth through a $15 billion stock offering, while Supermicro kept common equity dilution under 3% using debt. Intel's Foundry still bleeds $2.1 billion in operating losses and Supermicro carries an unresolved export-control review, making both difficult to underwrite now. Intel Stock Slips as $20 Billion Offering Expands Dilution
This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), the semiconductor giant fighting to reclaim its manufacturing edge, slipped approximately 0.1% in Tuesday's regular-session trading after turning an already enormous capital raise into an even bigger one. Intel boosted its stock offering from $15 billion to $20 billion, selling 210.5 million shares at $95 each. That should put roughly $19.7 billion of fresh cash on the balance sheet before any additional allotment. The deal is expected to close August 12. Intel makes another $15 billion vital move as AI demand accelerates
Time and again, I've seen the same movie at Intel, from different angles. From the layoffs, the 18A yield progress, the management restructuring, the CHIPS Act subsidies, and the Q2 beat, which was the company's strongest revenue growth in 15 years. Each piece of the puzzle has been pointing in the same direction: Artificial Intelligence (AI). These are just a few of the moves Intel has made. Recently, we saw Intel raise its 2026 capital expenditure estimates to more than $20 billion, from around $18 billion, to meet rising demand. August 10, Intel revealed how it intends to fund the next chap

Intel's huge rally is helping pay for its AI comeback: Chart of the Day
Intel's (INTC) AI ambitions are getting more expensive. Its 165% rally this year is helping foot the bill. The chipmaker said Monday it plans to raise $15 billion by selling new shares to investors, giving it fresh cash for factories, equipment, day-to-day operations, and other needs. That comes with a cost for existing shareholders. Selling new stock causes dilution, meaning each share represents a slightly smaller piece of the company. Intel's rally has dramatically reduced that cost. At Monday's close of roughly $98, Intel would need to sell about 153 million shares to raise $15 billion. At

Making Sense of the Multibillion-Dollar Numbers of Nvidia Deal, Intel Share Sale
Nvidia is becoming the "banker of choice to the AI ecosystem" as it seals $500 billion commitments from Wall Street giants. Meanwhile, Intel is looking at its first share sale since the 1970s. Bloomberg's reporters and market watchers make sense of the multibillion-dollar figures, with one noting the capital raise could be a "double-edged" sword for Nvidia. View Comments

1 Mega-Cap Stock with Impressive Fundamentals and 2 We Brush Off
1 Mega-Cap Stock with Impressive Fundamentals and 2 We Brush Off "Too big to fail" is how we would describe the megacap stocks in this article today. While they will likely stand the test of time, it's not all sunshine and rainbows as their scale can limit their ability to find new sources of growth. These trade-offs can cause headaches for even the most seasoned professionals, which is why we started StockStory - to help you find high-quality companies that can grow their earnings no matter what. Keeping that in mind, here is one industry titan with attractive long-term potential and two whose existing offerings may be tapped out. Two Mega-Cap Stocks to Sell: Intel (INTC) Market Cap: $503.4 billion Inventor of the x86 processor that powered decades of technological innovation in PCs, data centers, and numerous other markets, Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) is a leading manufacturer of computer processors and graphics chips. Why Do We Steer Clear of INTC? Customers postponed purchases of its products and services this cycle as its revenue declined by 4.9% annually over the last five years Performance over the past five years was negatively impacted by new share issuances as its earnings per share dropped by 27.1% annually, worse than its revenue Cash-burning tendencies make us wonder if it can sustainably generate shareholder value Intel's stock price of $100.21 implies a valuation ratio of 60.5x forward P/E. If you're considering INTC for your portfolio, see our FREE research report to learn more. Bank of America (BAC) Market Cap: $440.5 billion Tracing its roots back to 1784 and now serving approximately 67 million consumer and small business clients, Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) is a global financial institution that provides banking, investing, asset management, and risk management products and services to individuals, businesses, and governments. Why Does BAC Give Us Pause? Large revenue base makes it harder to expand quickly, and its annual net interest income growth of 9% over the last five years was below our standards for the banking sector Weak unit economics are reflected in its net interest margin of 2%, one of the worst among bank companies Capital generation will likely be soft over the next 12 months as Wall Street's estimates imply tepid tangible book value per share growth of 7.4% Bank of America is trading at $63.05 per share, or 1.6x forward P/B. Read our free research report to see why you should think twice about including BAC in your portfolio, it's free. One Mega-Cap Stock to Buy: Philip Morris (PM) Market Cap: $293.1 billion Founded in 1847, Philip Morris International (NYSE:PM) manufactures and sells a wide range of tobacco and nicotine-containing products, including cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and oral nicotine pouches. Story Continues Why Will PM Outperform? Differentiated product offerings are difficult to replicate at scale and result in a best-in-class gross margin of 67% Disciplined cost controls and effective management resulted in a strong two-year operating margin of 37%, and its profits increased over the last year as it scaled PM is a free cash flow machine with the flexibility to invest in growth initiatives or return capital to shareholders, and its improved cash conversion implies it's becoming a less capital-intensive business At $188.12 per share, Philip Morris trades at 21.7x forward P/E. Retail investors end SpaceX buying spree as stock reclaims IPO price: AlphaCheck
Good morning. Stocks were little changed on Monday morning as investors looked ahead to key inflation data and earnings later on in the week. Oil prices rose, with the US benchmark WTI crude oil futures (CL=F) trading above $80 per barrel. Here's a check of the markets in early trading, as of 10:30 a.m. ET, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data. Energy (XLE) led sector gains, while Technology (XLK) traded roughly flat on balance. Within tech, hardware stocks gained, while shares of semiconductor makers and consumer electronics providers were under pressure. Here are the top stocks Yahoo Finance readers viewed this morning: SpaceX (SPCX), Intel (INTC), Supermicro (SMCI), Arm (ARM), and CrowdStrike (CRWD). 1 trend we're watching: Retail traders sell SpaceX stock for first time The retail investor tide may be turning on SpaceX (SPCX) after 59 days in the public markets. According to a Reuters story citing Vanda Research, individual investors became net sellers of Elon Musk's rocket and satellite company for the first time on Friday, dumping a net $4.5 million in SpaceX shares. The negative reading marks a turning point for SpaceX, breaking a streak of positive retail investor interest since its June 12 public listing. (SPCX ) Go deeper with AlphaSpace 136.24 +3.13 (+2.35%) As of 11:03:39 AM EDT. Market Open. Retail investors had stuck by SpaceX's side even as the stock was cut in half from its peak price of $225.64 on June 16. But as my colleague Jared Blikre pointed out, enthusiasm began to cool in August even as mom-and-pop traders continued to buy the dip. SpaceX stock withstood a turbulent week last week, posting weekly gains after a rocky earnings reception and the expiration of a lockup period had the bears circling. Retail investors have been a key part of the SpaceX story. As part of the company's go-public push, it allocated 20% of shares to retail investors, well above the typical amount 5% to 10%. The IPO reportedly drew over $70 billion in SpaceX orders from the retail crowd. But the promise of future growth and Musk's ambitions haven't translated into gains over the past month. Though that could be changing as well. On Monday, SpaceX stock turned higher, reclaiming its IPO price of $135 for the first time since July 15. Why Do We Steer Clear of INTC? Sales tumbled by 4.9% annually over the last five years, showing market trends are working against it during this cycle Earnings per share decreased by more than its revenue over the last five years, partly because it diluted shareholders Negative free cash flow raises questions about the return timeline for its investments Intel's stock price of $100.92 implies a valuation ratio of 60.6x forward P/E. This Analyst On Wall Street Thinks The CPU Trade Is Overdone, Should You Sell ARM (ARM) Stock?
ARM Holdings Plc (NASDAQ:ARM) has become one of the key beneficiaries of the AI boom. It has expanded beyond its traditional smartphone business into the fastest-growing cloud and data center markets. The company's energy-efficient CPU designs are increasingly being adopted by major cloud providers building AI data centers. As ARM continues to grow its presence in the server CPU market, investors are closely watching whether it can continue delivering the growth needed to meet the market's high expectations. This Analyst On Wall Street Thinks The CPU Trade Is Overdone, Should You Sell ARM Stock? Photo from Arm Holdings Analysts Are Cautious Despite Long-Term Server CPU Potential Those rising expectations are one reason HSBC has become more cautious on the stock. While the firm acknowledged that ARM Holding's expansion into merchant server CPUs and the potential for higher server CPU royalties could create significant long-term growth, it believes the market has become overly optimistic about that opportunity. Since the company's "Arm Everywhere" event in March, the stock has significantly outperformed the broader semiconductor market. According to HSBC, the stock already reflects much of the company's long-term growth potential. ARM Holdings has historically traded at a premium, and the stock's current forward P/E of roughly 128 indicates investors are already pricing in a lot of future success, which justifies HSBC's view. TSMC Capacity Constraints Add to Near-Term Headwinds The firm also pointed to foundry capacity constraints at Taiwan Semiconductor Co. as a factor that could limit short-term earnings growth. As a result, HSBC analyst Frank Lee reiterated his Hold rating on ARM Holdings Plc (NASDAQ:ARM) stock on July 30. He also lowered his price target from $315 to $230. Not everyone on Wall Street is as cautious about ARM Holdings' outlook. UBS believes the company is well-positioned to benefit from rising demand for standalone CPUs as agentic AI adoption continues to increase. The firm expects ARM's energy-efficient architecture to become more widely used among hyperscalers, while higher royalty rates could support stronger long-term revenue growth. The firm also raised its outlook for the company's standalone CPU opportunity, which reflects growing confidence in ARM's long-term growth potential. Hedge Fund Interest Rises, But Intel Still Leads in Ownership At the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2026, 46 hedge funds in our database held positions in ARM Holdings, up from 33 at the end of the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025. Although hedge fund ownership of ARM increased during the quarter, it is still held by fewer funds than Intel, with 112 funds holding INTC stock in their portfolios. Despite UBS's bullishness on ARM Holdings, institutional investors still prefer Intel over ARM. Story Continues While we acknowledge the potential of ARM as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on thebest short-term AI stock. SoftBank Stock Drops 6.1% as AI Funding Pressure Intensifies
This article first appeared on GuruFocus. SoftBank Group (SOBKY), the Japanese technology investment powerhouse making some of the biggest bets in artificial intelligence, tumbled about 6.1% in Friday's Tokyo session after quarterly results reminded investors that building an AI empire doesn't come cheap. Net income fell 18% to 347.3 billion, but the bigger story wasn't earnings. It was whether SoftBank can keep finding enough capital to bankroll its ever-growing commitments to OpenAI, robotics and digital infrastructure. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 8 Warning Signs with SOBKY. Is SOBKY fairly valued? Test your thesis with our free DCF calculator. SoftBank generated roughly 1.86 trillion in investment gains during the quarter, helped significantly by its Intel stake. Its investment in OpenAI, however, produced no fresh valuation gains. That hasn't changed management's playbook. Founder Masayoshi Son is still pushing aggressively into AI, making it clear the company sees today's spending as the price of owning tomorrow's biggest technology platforms.SoftBank Stock Drops 6.1% as AI Funding Pressure Intensifies·us.finance.gurufocus The valuation story is where investors should pay close attention. The accompanying GF Value chart estimates SoftBank's fair value at just $8.12 per share, while the stock closed at $17.49, putting it about 115% above that estimate. That's a rich premium, meaning the market is already pricing in a lot of future AI success. SoftBank's investment machine also runs on borrowing, asset-backed financing and rising portfolio values, so strong gains in holdings like Arm (NASDAQ:ARM) or OpenAI-related investments can unlock more firepower, while falling valuations could tighten the screws. For now, investors aren't buying today's earningsthey're betting Masayoshi Son's AI vision delivers tomorrow. View Comments

How the page works
How to read the score
It describes the weighted balance of qualifying headlines. A score of 50 can mean balanced news or that there is not enough evidence; the status label explains which.
Confidence measures depth, source breadth, direct relevance, freshness and agreement. It does not rise merely because the tone is extreme.
Weekly price response, trend and fair-value position test whether the market is accepting or rejecting the news. They never rewrite the news score.
It measures news already published. It is not a forecast, recommendation or price target.
