Why Tesla Doesn't Need to Win China's Brutal EV Price War

Tesla's TSLA July vehicle sales numbers in China point in opposite directions. Deliveries in the country fell nearly 33% year on year to 27,249 vehicles and 48.51% month over month, per CnEVPost. On the surface, it looks like the company is losing ground in the world's biggest electric vehicle (EV) market. But in the same month, exports from Tesla's Shanghai plant hit 66,330 units, up 143.24% year on year and 83.38% from June, a new monthly record beating the previous high set in October 2022. Combined, Tesla's Shanghai-made output— domestic sales plus exports— actually rose 37.8% year on year

Elon Musk's Tesla Weighs $10.1 Billion Solar Plant, Chamath Palihapitiya Calls It a Bet on Nuclear: Here's Why

Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya said Wednesday that Tesla Inc.'s (NASDAQ:TSLA) expansion into solar manufacturing was essentially a bet on nuclear power, as the automaker weighs a $10.1 billion solar cell plant in Texas. 'All in on Nuclear' "Tesla is going all in on nuclear," Palihapitiya said in a post on X. Tesla Just Keeps Crashing: One of Wall Street’s Most Outspoken Names Sees 80% Gains Anyway

Quick Read Dan Ives assigns Tesla a $600 target by valuing it as an AI-robotics company, despite a 38% Q2 EPS miss and negative free cash flow. GM raised full-year EPS guidance and holds 22 of 28 Buy ratings, while RIVN's R2 launch remains the key catalyst for its 17% upside. Tesla's forward P/E of 169 and 1.4% operating margin leave little room for error. The key signal to watch is whether the company can sustain even one quarter of margin stabilization. Tesla’s China Numbers Show It Is On The Road To Comeback

How SpaceX's AI Buildout Is Boosting Tesla Megapack Sales

SpaceX SPCX is becoming a major customer for Tesla's TSLA energy storage business, and that could be more important than it first appears. In the first half of 2026, SpaceX bought about $329 million worth of Tesla Megapacks (including $295 million in the second-quarter itself), compared with $506 million for all of 2025. Does Tesla’s Terafab Texas Chip Bet Reshape Its AI Ambitions And Margin Story For TSLA?

In late July 2026, the Wall Street Journal reported that Tesla was exploring options to separate its China business ahead of a potential merger with SpaceX, a story Elon Musk and Tesla representatives publicly rejected as false even as it highlighted Tesla's heavy operational reliance on its Shanghai factory. At the same time, Tesla's deepening ties with SpaceX and projects like the Terafab Texas chip facility are prompting investors to weigh how any future restructuring of its China operations could reshape the company's global manufacturing footprint and exposure to geopolitical risk. Tesla in the spotlight as NFL's 49ers head coach says Autopilot may have been engaged during accident

Tesla (TSLA) is in the spotlight after news that the company's self-driving software may have played a part in an accident involving the head coach of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers. This comes as Tesla is ramping up its autonomous tech around the globe, a huge part of its future revenue story. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was injured in an accident on July 14 when his car veered onto oncoming traffic and hit another car head-on. Shanahan was adamant that he was the one at fault, not the other driver. However, in his first press appearance since the accident on Aug. 8, he added some new details. Sh

Tesla wants to build a $10B solar factory in Texas

Tesla intends to build a massive solar panel factory 45 minutes southwest of Houston, according to documents filed with the state of Texas. The new factory, called Project Crystal Sun, could cost as much as $10.1 billion. Tesla has applied for tax incentives to partially offset the cost, saying that it is exploring other sites "across multiple U.S. states." The factory would create about 9,700 full-time jobs, Tesla said. Without incentives, Tesla's accountants estimated that the property tax liability for the project would be about $1.1 billion over 37 years. The project aims to break ground t

Tesla Stock Rises Despite 20,349-Vehicle Headlight Recall

This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), the electric-vehicle and energy heavyweight, rose about 1% Tuesday despite another regulatory headache landing on its doorstep. Tesla is recalling 20,349 U.S. vehicles after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that low-beam headlights on certain Model 3 and Model Y vehicles could exceed federal brightness limits. A SpaceX-Tesla Deal Could Unlock Musk's $824 Billion Payday

This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Tesla Inc. (TSLA, Financials), the electric vehicle maker, could face an unusual consequence if speculation about a combination with SpaceX ever turns into a real deal. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 1 Warning Sign with SPCX. Is SPCX fairly valued? Test your thesis with our free DCF calculator. A takeover by SpaceX could effectively remove some of the operating milestones Elon Musk must hit before collecting the largest portions of his Tesla compensation package, according to a report cited by Seeking Alpha. Under the current plan, Tesla must reach a series of valuation targets while also hitting ambitious goals for vehicles, robots and robotaxis. A change of control could alter that equation. The operating milestones could effectively be treated as achieved, leaving Tesla's valuation at the time of a transaction as the main factor determining Musk's award. At the highest threshold, the maximum package would currently be worth about $824 billion. That creates an unusual tension. Musk controls roughly 86% of SpaceX's voting power, but Tesla shareholders would still need to approve any takeover. For investors, the bigger question is whether a deal designed to combine Musk's companies could also reshape the economics of his compensation in the process. View Comments

Tesla and SpaceX Just Committed $16.8 Billion to a Texas Chip Plant.

Legendary Tech Investor explains the chip shortage behind the project, and why he believes it could reshape the AI era Baltimore, MD, Aug. 11, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- James Altucher says the most important technology story of the year just unfolded in a quiet Texas county. On August 6, Reuters reported that SpaceX and Tesla will build a colossal new chip plant, called Terafab, in Grimes County, Texas. In a new presentation, the former hedge fund manager explains why he believes this single announcement points to one of the biggest shifts in the AI era, and why the chips behind it may matter more than most people realize. A Shortage So Large It's Hard to Believe Altucher's presentation centers on a number that sounds almost impossible. In his words, "Elon Musk says he needs 50 times more computer chips than the market can currently give him." Not 50 percent more. Fifty times more than the entire world produces in a year. It's the kind of figure that invites disbelief, and Altucher knows it. A year ago, a claim like that might have sounded like exaggeration. Now Musk's own companies are describing the same gap, and putting billions behind closing it. There are already reports that Terafab is designed to produce roughly double the entire current U.S. chip output on its own, a scale that would have seemed fantastical from a company that has never built a chip fab before. Altucher calls these chips "the bedrock of the AI revolution." In his telling, they are the hidden foundation beneath everything the technology promises, the data centers, the robots, the self-driving systems. Strip them away, and the entire AI story grinds to a halt. That, he argues, is why a shortage this severe is worth paying close attention to. A Factory Unlike Anything Ever Built The scale is difficult to picture. Musk called it "the largest and most valuable building on Earth by far," with more than 100 million square feet planned under a single roof. That isn't a factory in the ordinary sense. It's closer to a small industrial city built around one purpose. The idea is to bring the entire process together in one place, chip design, fabrication, memory, packaging, and testing, without shipping anything around the globe. According to one source, the plan splits the work: Tesla runs a smaller research fab while SpaceX handles high-volume manufacturing, using Intel's advanced production technology. It's an all-under-one-roof approach the traditional chip industry has never attempted at this size. Story Continues Both companies now say plainly that they will need far more chips than the world can currently make, which is the exact shortage at the heart of Altucher's presentation. When the companies themselves start echoing the argument, he suggests, it's no longer a fringe prediction. It's becoming the industry's working assumption. The Part He Finds Most Interesting What draws Altucher's attention isn't the giant names everyone already knows. It's a much smaller company where he describes it as one of "Elon's most trusted suppliers," a company he says Musk has quietly relied on for years. His reasoning is straightforward: a smaller supplier tied to a project of this magnitude has far more room to grow than a company already worth trillions. Why It Matters Now The investment is already underway, with $16.8 billion committed to the first phase of Terafab. As construction moves forward, the project represents one of the largest commitments ever made to expanding America's AI infrastructure. For Altucher, that's what makes this story so important. While most people are focused on today's AI headlines, the real foundation of tomorrow's AI economy is being built right now. Understanding that shift early is exactly why he believes this project deserves attention. About the Presentation In his new presentation, James Altucher explains why he believes Elon Musk needs far more chips than the market can supply, why that shortage points to one overlooked company, and wha

Tesla needs Robotaxi flywheel proof to boost investor conviction: Morgan Stanley

Investing.com -- Morgan Stanley told clients in a note on Tuesday that Tesla will need clearer evidence that its Robotaxi effort is scaling to strengthen investor conviction, following feedback from conversations after the company's second-quarter earnings. Analyst Andrew Percoco said investors remain constructive on Tesla's "Physical AI" opportunity, supported by stronger adoption of its Full Self-Driving software, but stronger conviction "will require clearer evidence that Robotaxi is scaling and more tangible Optimus proof points to support the ROI on elevated capex." The analyst added that the quarter did not materially alter his long-term thesis that Tesla is positioned to lead in Physical AI. However, weaker gross margins, higher research and development spending and extended free cash flow burn have "sharpened our (and investors') focus on measurable progress across Robotaxi and Optimus." Morgan Stanley noted that the most constructive feedback centered on FSD adoption, noting a 55% attach rate on North America deliveries, well above its prior 25% to 30% expectation. Investors are said to have viewed the Robotaxi disclosures as helpful "on the margin," but remain focused on whether Tesla can build density within existing cities while maintaining safety and improving utilization. On Optimus, the market "is still looking for evidence beyond commentary around SOP." Greater conviction in the stock, Percoco said, "will depend on evidence that the Robotaxi flywheel is working," with more vehicles on the road, higher city-level density, rising weekly unsupervised miles and improving unit economics. He called Robotaxi "the nearer-term validation point" for Tesla's broader Physical AI strategy. Tesla Just Found Another Way to Grow Without Selling a Car

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Elon Musk wants Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ) to become an autonomous-driving powerhouse, , but the company's Robotaxi service covered roughly 700,000 paid miles in the second quarter. That's down about 36% from approximately 1.1 million miles in the first quarter, according to Tesla's reported figures. Still, the service expanded across more U.S. cities, accumulating driving data specific to its purpose-built Cybercab so it can roll out more vehicles on the road. That makes the latest growth in Tesla's broader software ecosystem particularly interesting. Don't Miss: A single bad hire can set a startup back years. Here are the 5 hires founders most often misjudge — and why Still Learning the Market? These 50 Must-Know Terms Can Help You Catch Up Fast Tesla's Robotaxi Future Is Taking Time Robotaxi is supposed to be one of Tesla's biggest long-term growth engines. But the second quarter mileage decline shows why investors may have to wait before autonomous rides become a major source of revenue. The company says its Robotaxi service has expanded to additional metropolitan areas, while its purpose-built Cybercab is moving toward production. But scaling an autonomous fleet involves collecting enough real-world driving data, proving safety, and navigating regulatory requirements. In the meantime, Tesla already has something Robotaxi doesn't: millions of existing customers. The Tesla App Is Becoming More Important Tesla's mobile app reached 10.8 million monthly active users in July, according to Similarweb data, up 36.8% from a year earlier and 16.5% from June. Trending: Avoid the #1 Investing Mistake: How Your 'Safe' Holdings Could Be Costing You Big Time The app is also becoming more tightly connected to Tesla's software ecosystem. Recent updates added self-driving statistics, more vehicle controls and the ability to use Tesla's app for additional functions. Tesla has also expanded xAI's Grok assistant inside its vehicles, allowing drivers to control functions such as climate and music through voice commands. That creates an important distinction: Tesla doesn't necessarily need to sell another vehicle to increase the value of the vehicles it has already sold. Tesla's FSD Business Provides Clearer Example Tesla ended the second quarter with 1.48 million active full self-driving (FSD) customers, up 56% from a year earlier. More than 55% of new Tesla deliveries in North America included FSD, showing that the company is increasingly attaching software revenue to its vehicles. Story Continues Services and other revenue also reached $4.58 billion in the second quarter, up about 50% year over year, with record gross profit and gross margin. See Also: Skip the Regrets: The Essential Retirement Tips Experts Wish Everyone Knew Earlier. The bigger opportunity, then, isn't simply Tesla's ability to sell more cars. It's the ability to keep generating revenue from the cars already on the road through software, subscriptions and other services. Robotaxi could eventually become the much larger prize Musk has promised. But while that business works through its growing pains, Tesla is finding another way to grow: make the existing Tesla fleet worth more. For investors, that may be just as important to watch as the next Robotaxi mile. Image via Shutterstock Read Next: Think you're saving enough for your kids? Tesla Autopilot under scrutiny after crash involving 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan

Yahoo Finance Senior Autos Reporter Pras Subramanian joins Josh Lipton on Market Domination Overtime to discuss the Tesla (TSLA) Autopilot incident that may have played a role in a crash involving San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and what it could mean for the carmaker going forward. Video Transcript 00:00 Pras Subramanian Kyle Shanahan, 49ers coach, one of the top coaches in the league, involved in a pretty serious car accident. This is a big deal for for the NFL, the season, you know, 00:09 Pras Subramanian training season is is here right now. Uh, so he had injuries like broken bones, uh, 40 stitches in his face, possibly lost almost lost an eye. It was really serious stuff. 00:19 Pras Subramanian But then we find out over the weekend that it's some more new details were were were revealed. So, you know, at the time before that Shanahan said he had gotten accident, he dropped his phone and looked for it and then he got into got into an accident. 00:27 Pras Subramanian The car swerved into a another lane. But then he said that 00:30 Pras Subramanian he actually, you know, he is a Tesla owner for many years, and he said that he may have had autopilot engaged when the car crossed the line. So here's a direct quote from him from a press conference he gave over the weekend. He said, 00:41 Pras Subramanian I've had autopilot for nine years, so I'm pretty comfortable with it and you know, who knows what happens when I turned around? Whether it malfunctioned or whether I knocked it off. That's something I don't know yet. But regardless that that's, sorry, but regardless, that's it is always your fault 00:54 Pras Subramanian whether you're in autopilot or not, you can't take your eyes off the road. So, he seemingly admitted that autopilot was engaged during the trip, but he doesn't know what happened in between the time that he dropped his phone and turned around and then the car swerved and hit a car. 01:04 Pras Subramanian So, that's really interesting because of the fact that, you know, was it on or not. So, he doesn't know necessarily. He knows it's on before, he doesn't know what happened during the accident. 01:12 Pras Subramanian Tesla potentially could add add in there some some data if if they look it up, but 01:17 Pras Subramanian you know, this happens a lot. Um so they're not going to be looking at every instance of that, you know. 01:21 Speaker B Is is Tesla's data though, is that the only way to really determine whether autopilot was indeed engaged? 01:27 Pras Subramanian I believe so because I don't think I don't think that Coach Shanahan has the ability to see in his car's data logs whether that was on, and he doesn't know yet either. 01:36 Pras Subramanian Maybe the car also was damaged beyond uh the ability to kind of re reopen things. But Tesla will have this information being streamed back to their to their servers and they they should be able to tell what happened at at the moment that the car actually uh hit 01:47 Pras Subramanian got was engaged in the accident. You can also see whether he pushed the accelerator. You can see different things, whether he disengaged it in any fashion. 01:53 Speaker B Why why bigger picture, why does all this matter to Tesla? 01:56 Pras Subramanian You know, this is part of like the, you know, we talk about Tesla's valuation as beyond a car company. Um and it's more about software services, AI. and a big part of that, the AI services stuff is a physical or embodied AI and that means robo-taxis 02:07 Pras Subramanian and that means uh FSD, right? So Wall Street very bullish on these two businesses to the point that, you know, uh Deutsche Bank had a recent note out talking about how they see um FSD's 02:19 Pras Subramanian enterprise value by 2030 being $225 billion, okay, not nothing, but they see the robo-taxi business at 1.125 trillion 02:28 Pras Subramanian by 2030. They see these things as big business for Tesla way bigger than the regular car business, right? Way

The Zacks Analyst Blog Highlights SpaceX, Tesla KLA Corp, Onto Innovation, Applied Materials and Lam Research

For Immediate Release Chicago, IL – August 10, 2026 – Zacks.com announces the list of stocks featured in the Analyst Blog. Every day the Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and the financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: SpaceX SPCX, Tesla TSLA, KLA Corp KLAC, Onto Innovation ONTO, Applied Materials AMAT and Lam Research LRCX. Here are highlights from Friday's Analyst Blog: Tesla-SpaceX Terafab Bet: 4 Chip Equipment Stocks That Could Benefit Elon Musk is betting big on chips. SpaceX and Tesla have committed an initial $16.8 billion to build Terafab, an AI semiconductor complex spanning more than 100 million square feet in Grimes County, TX. The vertically integrated facility is designed to handle chip manufacturing, packaging, and testing all under one roof. A buildout of this scale could create opportunities for chip equipment makers like KLA Corp, Onto Innovation, Applied Materials and Lam Research. Musk has pegged Tesla and SpaceX's future AI compute needs at over 1 terawatt annually— a figure that dwarfs current global chip output— and Terafab is meant to help close that gap. The chips from the Terafab plant will be engineered for edge computing and inference, purpose-built to power Tesla's Optimus robots and Cybercabs, alongside high-performance processors for SpaceX's space-based data centers. As Tesla and SpaceX lean further into AI-dependent products, including autonomous robots, self-driving vehicles and orbital computing, owning manufacturing capacity in-house could mean fewer bottlenecks, less reliance on external suppliers and faster execution on projects central to Musk's roadmap. To pull it off, Intel has also stepped in as a manufacturing partner, lending its process technology and high-volume production expertise to the facility. Beyond Intel, Terafab's buildout will require enormous amounts of specialized equipment— the tools that actually construct, inspect, and calibrate a fab of this size. No vendors have been named publicly yet, but a handful of companies dominate that space, and they stand to benefit as Terafab's plans unfold. 4 Top-Ranked Chip Equipment Stocks KLA helps chipmakers detect defects and measure chip quality during the manufacturing process. It's like the quality-control specialist of a semiconductor factory. Since Terafab plans to manufacture logic chips, memory chips, and package them all in one facility, maintaining high production quality will be critical. As chips become more advanced, manufacturers need even more inspection and testing, which should support demand for KLA's tools. The stock sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for KLA's fiscal 2027 and 2028 EPS implies year-over-year growth of 44% and 21%, respectively. Story Continues You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank stocks here. Onto provides inspection and measurement tools, with a strong focus on advanced chip packaging, including tools that help align and connect chip components as they are assembled. Terafab plans to handle packaging in-house, and since Musk's roadmap spans different chip types, that likely means a mix of packaging methods too. As AI chips grow more complex, demand for advanced packaging keeps rising, and Onto has been benefiting from that trend. The stock sports a Zacks Rank #1. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Onto's 2026 and 2027 EPS implies year-over-year growth of 45% and 40%, respectively. Applied Materials sells a broad range of chipmaking equipment along with the installation and support services that go with them. That breadth matters for Terafab, which plans to produce advanced logic and memory chips in a single facility. AI-driven demand is pushing more equipment spending toward this kind of advanced chipmaking, where Applied Materials already has an established presence. The stock carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for AMAT's fiscal 2026 and 2027 EPS implie

Paul Graham Says His Wife’s First Tesla FSD Experience Was Like a ‘Religious Revelation’— and AI Chief Ashok Elluswamy Had One Request When He Heard It

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham said a new Tesla Inc. left his wife Jessica stunned by its self-driving capabilities, calling her reaction the "usual religious revelation" and praising the 23-year-old automaker for still generating that level of excitement. Graham Praises Tesla's Self-Driving Wow Factor "Jessica bought a new Tesla today. Her experience with self-driving was the usual religious revelation. Impressive that a 23 year old company can still generate that kind of reaction," Graham wrote in an X post on Thursday. Please let it be in the US — Ashok Elluswamy (@aelluswamy) August 7, 2026 Don't Miss: A single bad hire can set a startup back years. Here are the 5 hires founders most often misjudge — and why Still Learning the Market? These 50 Must-Know Terms Can Help You Catch Up Fast Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy replied, "Please let it be in the US," where Tesla has built its largest market for Full Self-Driving, or FSD. The company still markets the technology as supervised driver assistance rather than fully autonomous driving. Tesla's FSD business has expanded quickly. The company ended the second quarter with about 1.5 million active subscriptions, up 56% from a year earlier, Reuters reported. Tesla disclosed 1.48 million subscriptions, up from 1.28 million in the first quarter. FSD Growth Meets Rising Regulatory Scrutiny CEO Elon Musk has said customers in markets where regulators allow FSD increasingly ask for the software first and the vehicle second. Musk recently stated that Tesla's U.S. store employees hear customers asking for FSD on "whatever car it comes with," highlighting the carmaker's effort to make software a bigger part of vehicle demand. Despite the name, FSD requires active driver supervision. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration classifies systems that control steering and speed while requiring human oversight as Level 2 advanced driver assistance. Trending: Avoid the #1 Investing Mistake: How Your 'Safe' Holdings Could Be Costing You Big Time Regulators continue scrutinizing the technology. NHTSA in March upgraded an investigation covering about 3.2 million Teslas after examining FSD incidents in reduced-visibility conditions. The agency identified nine potentially related incidents, including one fatal crash and two injury crashes. Global Rollout Tests Tesla's Autonomy Ambitions Tesla's overseas rollout remains uneven. The Netherlands approved supervised FSD earlier this year, while wider European clearance remains under review and Tesla is also seeking approval in China. Story Continues Graham's reaction highlights the contrast between regulatory caution and owner enthusiasm. Tesla is betting that such experiences can help convert more drivers into paying FSD subscribers as autonomy becomes central to its growth story. Benzinga Edge Rankings show Tesla stock scores poorly on the Momentum and Value metrics, but provides satisfactory Growth and Quality. Tesla (TSLA) Rumors Swirl Over China Split Ahead Of Possible Merger

Find winning stocks in any market cycle. Join 7 million investors using Simply Wall St's investing ideas for FREE. Tesla (NasdaqGS:TSLA) is at the center of new market rumors that it may separate its China business and prepare for a potential merger with SpaceX. Unconfirmed options reported for Tesla's China operations include a possible sale, spinoff, or closure ahead of any combination with SpaceX. CEO Elon Musk and Tesla representatives have publicly denied that such merger and separation talks are taking place. The speculation focuses investor attention on Tesla's access to China-based supply chains, regulatory exposure, and long term positioning in a key electric vehicle market. Consider broadening your watchlist to other companies exposed to automation and robotics through 37 robotics and automation stocksNasdaqGS:TSLA Earnings & Revenue Growth as at Aug 2026 Tesla sits at the crossroads of electric vehicles, batteries, and software, so any discussion around its structure draws attention to how the stock trades. At a share price of US$328.58, Tesla has seen mixed performance, with a gain of 5.6% over the past week but declines of 19.4% over the past month and 25.0% year to date. Its 3 year and 5 year returns remain materially positive. We've flagged 2 risks for Tesla. See which could impact your investment. How the Tesla China and SpaceX Rumors Test the Physical AI Narrative The central bet in Tesla's Narrative is that the company can use real world AI, autonomy, and energy infrastructure to build a high margin, software and services focused business on top of its vehicle and storage base. Rumors of a China separation and a possible merger with SpaceX cut directly across how integrated and scalable that model really is. Tesla's aggressive Gigafactory and product development, including more affordable models and next-gen robot or humanoid products like Optimus, are expanding its addressable market... Read the full Tesla narrative to see the case behind these numbers On the bull side, the story of Tesla as a physical AI and infrastructure platform is reinforced by how central China has become to manufacturing, batteries, and exports. The Shanghai plant accounts for over half of global vehicle deliveries and supplies multiple regions. That scale fits the Narrative claim that Gigafactories and vertical integration are core to widening Tesla's market reach. The bear case gets fresh support from the same facts. Any scenario that involves selling, spinning off, or even sharply ring fencing Tesla China would directly test the Narrative's assumption that trade policy and regulatory frictions are manageable headwinds. It would also raise questions about how easily Tesla can compound energy and autonomy services if a key production and demand region is structurally separated. Story Continues For execution risk, this rumored pivot would sit alongside concerns already flagged in the Narrative, such as slower product ramps and high capital spending. Combining Tesla with SpaceX could add another layer of complexity and governance risk on top of existing projects like robotaxis and Optimus, particularly when investors are already weighing competition from players like Alphabet's Waymo and Chinese EV manufacturers. Overall, this news leans slightly bearish for the current Narrative. It does not invalidate the physical AI and energy story, but it underlines how reliant that story is on geopolitically sensitive supply chains and on leadership focus across several large, parallel initiatives.
