Applied Materials sees revenue above estimates, shares fall on high expectations
Aug 13 (Reuters) - Applied Materials forecast fourth-quarter revenue above Wall Street expectations on Thursday, betting that unabated demand for advanced AI chips will continue to fuel robust spending on its semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) closed out Friday up 0.6%, putting the index back into record-high territory. As we putter through the back nine of this quarter's earnings season, our focus will continue to be split between the drip of more companies opening t

The Economy Lost Jobs, Wall Street Threw a Party: What Moved Markets This Week
The American economy shed 23,000 nonfarm payrolls in July. Wall Street answered with its best week since April. That is not a contradiction. It turns on the fact that has defined 2026 and that many investors still find uncomfortable: the Federal Reserve's next move was supposed to be up. A shrinking payroll count took it off the table. Payrolls dropped by 53,000. Private employers still added 30,000 jobs, sho

How the page works
How to read the score
It describes the weighted balance of qualifying headlines. A score of 50 can mean balanced news or that there is not enough evidence; the status label explains which.
Confidence measures depth, source breadth, direct relevance, freshness and agreement. It does not rise merely because the tone is extreme.
Weekly price response, trend and fair-value position test whether the market is accepting or rejecting the news. They never rewrite the news score.
It measures news already published. It is not a forecast, recommendation or price target.
