Michael Burry Just Shorted Palantir Again -- He Thinks It's Headed Below $1

Michael Burry rose to prominence as one of the hedge fund managers who foresaw the 2007-2009 housing market collapse, a prediction later detailed in the book and feature film The Big Short. Hot-Flash Drug Trial Result Sends AbCellera Up as Much as 41%

(Bloomberg) -- Biotech company AbCellera Biologics Inc. jumped as much as 41%, giving it a market value of almost $3 billion, after it said a potential remedy for hot flashes was effective in a mid-stage trial. "The efficacy data is beyond even the most aggressive upside scenario we had dared to consider." Shares of Vancouver-based AbCellera were up 32% to $9.17 in US trading shortly before 12 p.m. Monday, as the company announced the results of a clinical trial evaluating the treatment in 92 postmenopausal women who were given either the drug or a placebo. It still faces further clinical trials. The drug aims to block a biological signal associated with hot flashes, which can cause sudden feelings of uncomfortable heat and disruption to sleep. Hansen said it has significant market potential because it would be a non-hormonal treatment, and the hormone therapies currently available are unsuitable for 20% of women. The company said its experimental shot reduced the frequency and severity of hot flashes over a four-week study period compared with a placebo, with no serious side effects. The most common side effects patients getting the drug experienced were headaches, fatigue and injection-site reactions. AbCellera went public in December 2020 and played a role in the development of a Covid-19 therapy. The company was backed at an earlier stage by billionaire Palantir Technologies Inc. co-founder Peter Thiel, and he also sat on its board. Thiel stepped down from that role in 2024. Zacks Investment Ideas feature highlights: Palantir, SpaceX, Cerebras and NVIDIA

For Immediate Release Chicago, IL – August 10, 2026 – Today, Zacks Investment Ideas feature highlights Palantir PLTR, SpaceX SPCX, Cerebras CBRS and NVIDIA NVDA. Why Bad Jobs News Is Good News for Equities U.S. Jobs Number Disappoints Friday morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the July 2026 Employment Situation Report. Nonfarm payrolls plunged 23,000 versus Wall Street estimates of +80,000. The payroll miss was one of the largest on record and represented a 5-sigma miss. For context, a 5-sigma miss is the equivalent of 1 in 3.5 million. Said differently, at one job report per month, a miss that size would show up about once every 290,000 years. The losses were mostly due to local government education (-50,000), retail trade (-19,000), and leisure and hospitality (-26,000 to 40,000). Macroeconomic headwinds such as higher energy prices, increased operating costs and squeezed transportation, retail, and hospitality companies. Meanwhile, although today's miss was notable, the downtrend is nothing new. Non-farm payrolls have trended downward for four consecutive months. Why the Jobs Shock is Bullish for Equities For Wall Street investors, they must separate the economy from the stock market. Prolonged jobs losses are bearish for stocks. However, with the unemployment rate still relatively low at 4.1%, the jobs miss is actually bullish for equities. That's because the main driver of equities is central-bank-driven liquidity. "Earnings don't move the overall market; it's the Federal Reserve Board... focus on the central banks, and focus on the movement of liquidity... most people in the market are looking for earnings and conventional measures. It's liquidity that moves markets." ~ Stanley Druckenmiller Before today's job numbers, it looked as if Fed Chair Kevin Warsh would need to hike interest rates to fight inflation. In fact, three members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) voted to raise interest rates at the Federal Reserve's latest monetary policy meeting. However, the latest data from betting markets suggest that a September rate hike is highly unlikely. According to the Polymarket betting market, September rate-hike odds plunged from nearly 60% in early August to ~35% today. AI Stocks Stabilize A key part of the market to watch is the AI industry. AI investment accounted for a whopping 50% of Q1 GDP growth. Tech stocks are coming off one of their most volatile months in years. However, leading AI stocks are showing signs of stabilization. For instance, Palantir jumped 30% after smashing Wall Street expectations. After post-IPO corrections SpaceX and Cerebras are trying to round out the right side of IPO base structures. Meanwhile, NVIDIA, the leading AI stock, finally showed some life, jumping more than 10% this week. Story Continues Bottom Line Friday's job number was a rare 5-sigma miss. While the negative jobs number is bad news for the economy, it is positive for stocks because it means the Fed is less likely to raise interest rates. Why Haven't You Looked at Zacks' Top Stocks? Palantir (PLTR) Turning AI Demand into Profitable Growth

Sands Capital, an investment management company, released its "Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, global equities rebounded sharply, with the MSCI ACWI posting its strongest quarterly gain since 2020, supported by broad market strength, easing geopolitical tensions, and continued enthusiasm for AI infrastructure. Information technology led the advance, with semiconductor and hardware companies accounting for most of the index's rise. The fund returned 26.9% (net) in the second quarter of 2026. The portfolio benefited from strong gains across memory, software infrastructure, cybersecurity, and other AI-related holdings, although its concentrated exposure to mega-cap chip designers and manufacturers weighed on relative performance as leadership broadened into CPUs, networking, and memory. Vertical software, internet, and financial holdings were modest detractors amid macro concerns and uncertainty over AI disruption. The fund remains focused on critical AI bottlenecks, including compute, memory, manufacturing, networking, and power, while retaining selected businesses that may use AI to strengthen their competitive positions. You can check the fund's top five holdings to learn more about its leading investment ideas for the year. In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund highlighted Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR). Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR), which builds and deploys software platforms for the intelligence community to assist in counterterrorism investigations and operations, detracted from the performance this quarter. On August 7, 2026, Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) closed at $172.01 per share. One-month return of Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) was 32.27% and its shares lost 5.84% over the past 52 weeks. Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) has a market capitalization of $413.36 billion. Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund stated the following regarding Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) in its Q2 2026 investor letter: "Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) is a data intelligence and operational AI platform that helps governments and enterprises solve complex challenges by integrating and analyzing data across functions. Our holding was a detractor during the quarter, as shares declined despite reporting very strong first-quarter results. Revenue growth accelerated meaningfully, the company delivered a record guidance raise, and profitability continued to improve, with strong incremental margins and continued GAAP earnings growth. In our view, the stock reaction reflected elevated expectations and ongoing investor debate around valuation and competition from AI labs, rather than deterioration in the underlying business. We believe Palantir is increasingly proving itself as a clear winner in artificial intelligence, with its platform tied to durable growth themes including defense modernization, reindustrialization, energy buildout, and space. We maintain conviction, supported by Palantir's differentiated software platform, expanding customer adoption, and ability to translate AI demand into profitable growth." Story Continues Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR): I Don't Own It, But I Recommend It, Says Jim Cramer Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) is not on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 96 hedge fund portfolios held Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) at the end of the first quarter which was 89 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. Palantir Technologies (PLTR) Is Considered a Good Investment by Brokers: Is That True?

Investors often turn to recommendations made by Wall Street analysts before making a Buy, Sell, or Hold decision about a stock. While media reports about rating changes by these brokerage-firm employed (or sell-side) analysts often affect a stock's price, do they really matter? Let's take a look at what these Wall Street heavyweights have to say about Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) before we discuss the reliability of brokerage recommendations and how to use them to your advantage. Palantir Technologies currently has an average brokerage recommendation (ABR) of 1.70, on a scale of 1 to 5 (Strong Buy to Strong Sell), calculated based on the actual recommendations (Buy, Hold, Sell, etc.) made by 30 brokerage firms. An ABR of 1.70 approximates between Strong Buy and Buy. Of the 30 recommendations that derive the current ABR, 21 are Strong Buy, representing 70% of all recommendations. Brokerage Recommendation Trends for PLTRBroker Rating Breakdown Chart for PLTR Check price target & stock forecast for Palantir Technologies here>>> While the ABR calls for buying Palantir Technologies, it may not be wise to make an investment decision solely based on this information. Several studies have shown limited to no success of brokerage recommendations in guiding investors to pick stocks with the best price increase potential. Do you wonder why? As a result of the vested interest of brokerage firms in a stock they cover, their analysts tend to rate it with a strong positive bias. According to our research, brokerage firms assign five "Strong Buy" recommendations for every "Strong Sell" recommendation. This means that the interests of these institutions are not always aligned with those of retail investors, giving little insight into the direction of a stock's future price movement. It would therefore be best to use this information to validate your own analysis or a tool that has proven to be highly effective at predicting stock price movements. Zacks Rank, our proprietary stock rating tool with an impressive externally audited track record, categorizes stocks into five groups, ranging from Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) to Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell), and is an effective indicator of a stock's price performance in the near future. Therefore, using the ABR to validate the Zacks Rank could be an efficient way of making a profitable investment decision. Zacks Rank Should Not Be Confused With ABR In spite of the fact that Zacks Rank and ABR both appear on a scale from 1 to 5, they are two completely different measures. The ABR is calculated solely based on brokerage recommendations and is typically displayed with decimals (example: 1.28). In contrast, the Zacks Rank is a quantitative model allowing investors to harness the power of earnings estimate revisions. It is displayed in whole numbers -- 1 to 5. Story Continues It has been and continues to be the case that analysts employed by brokerage firms are overly optimistic with their recommendations. Because of their employers' vested interests, these analysts issue more favorable ratings than their research would support, misguiding investors far more often than helping them. On the other hand, earnings estimate revisions are at the core of the Zacks Rank. And empirical research shows a strong correlation between trends in earnings estimate revisions and near-term stock price movements. Furthermore, the different grades of the Zacks Rank are applied proportionately across all stocks for which brokerage analysts provide earnings estimates for the current year. In other words, at all times, this tool maintains a balance among the five ranks it assigns. There is also a key difference between the ABR and Zacks Rank when it comes to freshness. When you look at the ABR, it may not be up-to-date. Nonetheless, since brokerage analysts constantly revise their earnings estimates to reflect changing business trends, and their actions get reflected in the Zacks Rank quickly enough, it is always timely in p

Earnings beats ease concerns over record U.S. stock rally - WSJ

Investing.com -- Strong second-quarter earnings from major U.S. companies have pushed stock indexes to fresh highs and eased concerns that the rally relies too heavily on a small group of artificial intelligence companies, the Wall Street Journal reported. About 86% of the more than 440 S&P 500 companies that have reported results beat analysts' estimates, according to FactSet. The index is on course for its seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit earnings growth. Upbeat results from Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:PLTR), Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) helped major indexes post their strongest weekly gains since April. S&P 500 blended earnings have increased by roughly 50%, the strongest growth since the stimulus-driven recovery in 2021. Energy-sector earnings rose more than 147%, followed by gains of around 117% for communication services, 92% for consumer discretionary companies and 70% for technology. Higher oil prices linked to the Iran war drove much of the energy sector's growth. Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM)l's profit more than doubled to its highest since 2022, while Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) reported record quarterly earnings. AI spending continued to drive results across other sectors. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) shares jumped 15% in one session after cloud-computing sales accelerated. Microsoft added a record $450 billion in market value following results that eased concerns about returns from spending on data centres and chips. Demand for generators and construction equipment used in data centres also helped Caterpillar increase total sales and revenue by 24%. Still, earnings growth remains concentrated. Alphabet and Amazon accounted for about 71% of the increase in blended S&P 500 earnings since July. Excluding the companies would reduce growth from about 50% to 32%. Valuations also remain elevated. The S&P 500 traded at around 28 times trailing earnings last week, below May's level above 29 but well over its 10-year average of 22.5. Investors will turn next to earnings from Cisco and Applied Materials, along with the latest U.S. consumer inflation report. Palantir (PLTR) Posted Record 93% Growth, Here’s Why Analysts Think It Won’t Last

Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) delivered the strongest revenue growth in its history on its Aug 3 earnings, surpassing guidance across every key metric, and fueling a double-digit rally the next day. Results like these would normally be enough to win over even the stock's biggest skeptics. Yet those results were not enough to change Jefferies analyst Brent Thill's broader view. Although he raised his price target, he maintained an Underperform rating on the shares. His argument isn't the strength of the latest quarter. Rather, the analyst believes the real challenge is whether the company can sustain this level of growth as investor expectations become more demanding.Palantir (PLTR) Posts Record 93% Growth, But Jefferies Isn’t Convinced It Lasts A Record Quarter Ends With Even Higher Guidance Palantir Technologies delivered another record-breaking quarter, with revenue rising 93% year-over-year to $1.935 billion. The result comfortably topped Wall Street's estimate by $130 million and marked the highest revenue growth rate in the company's history. The U.S. remained Palantir's biggest growth driver, with revenue surging 115% year over year to $1.573 billion. Within that, U.S. commercial revenue increased 149%, while government revenue grew 90%. Adjusted earnings came in at $0.41 per share, beating consensus estimates by $0.06. Looking ahead, management raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $8.15 billion to $8.158 billion, implying roughly 82% annual growth. Moreover, the company increased its U.S. commercial revenue guidance to more than $3.424 billion, reflecting annual growth of at least 134%. Following the announcement, the stock gained as much as 14% to 15% in after-hours trading. Jefferies Warns the Growth Bar Is About To Rise On August 3, Jefferies analyst Brent Thill raised the firm's price target on Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) from $70 to $80 but kept his Underperform rating, a rare bearish call after a record quarter. Thill didn't dispute the quarter's strength, but his concern is what comes next. The analyst's concern is the increasing difficulty of sustaining exceptional growth as year-over-year comparisons become significantly tougher. According to Brent Thill, year-over-year growth hurdles rise from 67% in the second half of 2026 to 89% in the first half of 2027. That will make future outperformance increasingly harder, regardless of how well PLTR executes. He also highlighted moderating international growth, which leaves the company increasingly reliant on the United States for expansion. Hedge Funds Are Still Buying In Story Continues The institutional ownership reflects a more constructive outlook. The number of hedge funds holding Palantir Technologies increased from 89 at the end of the fourth quarter of 2025 to 96 at the end of the first quarter of 2026. That trend suggests many professional investors remained confident in the company's ability to maintain its growth trajectory at a time when AI was looking to disrupt many software companies, including Palantir, according to some analysts. Alex Karp has always denied any such threat, and hedge fund sentiment points to the same. While we acknowledge the risk and potential of PLTR as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. Jim Cramer’s Post Earnings Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) Worry Didn’t Materialize

Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) is a stock that Jim Cramer has, perhaps begrudgingly, shifted his opinion on. Throughout 2025, the CNBC TV was nothing short of unbridled optimism for the firm. Cramer asserted on multiple occasions that Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) was slated to benefit from the Trump administration's focus on cost-cutting and its ability to enable businesses to operate more efficiently. However, the shares are down by 6.3% over the past year. Cramer wondered whether Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR)'s performance following its second-quarter earnings report and praised the release: "After market buyers walking up Palantir like the old days.. But are the old days still viable? "Palantir's numbers were amazing ..sometimes I wish they were a little more "res ipsa loquitur" but it was an enjoyable call for certain!" Later, he also urged the bulls to take it higher: "Ok just take Palantir up 50 already. come on" Looks like Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR)'s shares did trade like the "old days" Cramer mentioned. Since the earnings, they are up by a strong 26%. The results saw Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) post $1.94 billion in revenue and guide $8.15 billion and $8.158 billion in full-year revenue. The revenue figure beat analyst estimates of $1.8 billion, and the quarter was also marked by a 148% jump in commercial revenue and a 90% growth in government revenue. The growth in commercial revenue addressed a concern for Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) that was common last year. With a forward P/E ratio of 84.03 that is significantly higher than that of peer firms such as IBM (18.98) and Microsoft (25) the key debate for Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) is whether the valuation is justified by its future prospects. Starting with the buls, even though the multiple is high, they believe it fails to capture the firm's potential. They point towards the second quarter revenue growth of 93% and outline that the firm commands a dominant position in the market for allowing businesses to implement artificial intelligence in their processes. Additionally, they point towards the firm's free cash flow to claim a healthy business. However, the bears counter by outlining that while Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) is growing, its valuation multiples price in years of strong growth. This valuation, as per the bears, means that there is little room for disappointing financials. Additionally, the bears also worry that if the market faces any AI-related headwinds, then Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR)'s close links to the sector could spell trouble for the stock. Additionally, there are also worries about competitors such as Microsoft and OpenAI building AI-implementation layers to eat the firm's market share. Story Continues Shifting to the hedge funds, 89 out of the 1,041 hedge funds part of Insider Monkey's Q4 2025 database had owned Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR)'s shares. This figure grew to 96 out of the 1,022 in Q1 2026, indicating that perhaps hedge fund sentiment improved slightly. On the other hand, firms such as IBM and Snowflake had 59 and 80 hedge fund stakeholders in Q1. Short interest in the stock was 3.64% of the float, which was higher than Microsoft's 1.24% and lower than IBM's 3.90%. The largest hedge fund stakeholder was Arrowstreet Capital, whose $1.5 billion stake marked a 278% growth. While Insider Monkey acknowledges the risk and potential of PLTR as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk. How the page works

How to read the score

Tone is directional

It describes the weighted balance of qualifying headlines. A score of 50 can mean a balanced tape or that direction has been withheld for insufficient evidence; the status label distinguishes them.

Confidence is separate

Confidence measures depth, source breadth, direct relevance, freshness and agreement. It does not rise merely because the tone is extreme.

Price is confirmation

Weekly price response, trend and fair-value position test whether the market is accepting or rejecting the news. They never rewrite the news score.

Classification, not prediction

The page describes completed evidence available at the stated time. It is research context, not a forecast, recommendation, target or execution instruction.
