AMD (AMD) Trades at a Premium: Phillip Securities Says AI Growth Justifies It
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is trading at roughly 70x forward earnings, but Phillip Securities believes this premium is justified given its positioning for rising agentic AI demand. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Price Prediction: How Much a $5,000 Investment Could Be Worth by 2031
Quick Read AMD's Data Center revenue jumped 57% YoY, driving a base-case projection of $7,657 from a $5,000 investment by 2031. Export controls already cost AMD roughly $800 million in inventory charges, while a P/E of 206 leaves little room for execution stumbles. Lisa Su noted MI450 and Helios customer forecasts exceed initial expectations, with Meta, OpenAI, and Oracle running major GPU deployments. It sounds nuts, but SoFi1 is giving new Active Invest users up to $3,000 in stock for a limited time, and all it takes is a $50 deposit to get started.2 See for yourself (Sponsor) Advanced Micro

Core Scientific (CORZ) Shareholders Rejected a $9B Sale. Does the AMD Deal Vindicate Them?
Core Scientific, Inc. (NASDAQ:CORZ) announced a major infrastructure partnership with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) on July 28, giving the chipmaker's ecosystem access to more than 500 megawatts of U.S. data-center capacity beginning in 2027. The arrangement can expand to 2.5 gigawatts. Core Scientific shares rallied in premarket trading. The agreement is more substantial than the initial announcement suggested. Core Scientific's earnings release described 15-year agreements covering approximately 530 megawatts across five sites, with more than $14 billion of potential base contracted revenue. Its regulatory filing provided an important distinction: AMD directly leased 377 megawatts, while an unnamed neocloud leased another 152 megawatts under agreements that give AMD certain equipment protections and rights if that customer defaults. The larger story, however, began nine months earlier. Core Scientific shareholders rejected an all-stock acquisition by CoreWeave whose announcement-date implied equity value was approximately $9 billion. The fixed exchange ratio valued CORZ at $20.40 per share when the transaction was announced in July 2025, but the value shareholders would have received at closing was not fixed and moved with CoreWeave's share price. In January, Gullane Capital Partners founder Trip Miller, who had opposed the sale, predicted that Core Scientific would secure new AI customers. "I expect them to announce deals for AI with third parties other than CoreWeave," he told Business Insider. The new agreements appear to deliver precisely that customer diversification. Taken together, AMD's 377-megawatt direct lease and the neocloud's 152-megawatt lease exceed Miller's roughly 400-megawatt expectation, although AMD itself did not directly lease the full 529 megawatts. The question is whether the agreements prove that shareholders were right to preserve Core Scientific's independence, or merely give the company a large, capital-intensive opportunity whose ultimate value remains uncertain. BULL CASE AMD agreement validates the central argument shareholders made when they rejected CoreWeave: Core Scientific's power portfolio could attract major customers beyond its existing tenant. Before the new agreements, CoreWeave remained Core Scientific's only meaningful high-density colocation customer. Core Scientific had leased approximately 590 megawatts to CoreWeave, and a single customer generated 77% of the company's first-half revenue. The new leases almost double total leased customer power capacity to approximately 1.1 gigawatts. Core Scientific said that capacity now represents more than $24 billion of potential contracted revenue, including the existing CoreWeave relationship and the new agreements connected to AMD. Story Continues This matters because the independence case depended on more than rising demand for AI infrastructure. Core Scientific had to demonstrate that its sites, power access, construction capabilities, and delivery record were attractive to counterparties other than CoreWeave. The AMD ecosystem provides that validation. AMD's direct 377-megawatt commitment is spread across sites in Pecos, Muskogee, and Hunt County. The additional 152 megawatts leased by a neocloud across two other sites will support AMD equipment, with AMD receiving contractual protections surrounding that equipment. Together, the initial 529 megawatts of critical IT capacity are already comparable with Core Scientific's entire 590-megawatt CoreWeave relationship. If AMD converts its reservation rights for another 1,925 megawatts into leases, the partnership could eventually dwarf CoreWeave's position. The agreement also strengthens Core Scientific's transition away from bitcoin mining. Colocation generated $136.7 million of the company's $164.2 million in second-quarter revenue. The business is increasingly becoming a data-center landlord rather than a bitcoin miner attempting an AI pivot. From this perspective, the shareho

AMD (AMD) Buys Inference Chip Startup Taalas To Sharpen Its AI Edge
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) is trying to solve two problems at once: proving its AI hardware can keep growing as fast as Street expects, and making a case for why that growth alone should justify the stock's price. On August 6, AMD confirmed a deal to buy Taalas, a Toronto-based startup building specialized silicon for AI inference, a move aimed squarely at the first problem even as the second has been driving the stock's swings all week.AMD (AMD) Buys Inference Chip Startup Taalas To Sharpen Its AI Edge Bull Case: A Full Stack Getting Fuller Taalas, founded in 2023, has built technology that optimizes how data moves during AI inference, cutting the compute and memory bottlenecks that slow general-purpose chip designs. AMD plans to fold that technology into its accelerator roadmap and pair it with AMD Instinct GPUs, adding another layer to a platform that already spans Helios rackscale systems, EPYC CPUs and the ROCm software stack. The deal, still subject to regulatory approval, also extends AMD's long-standing presence in Canada, where the company says it intends to keep growing its engineering talent base. The underlying business backs that ambition up. Second-quarter revenue hit a record $11.5 billion, up 50% year-over-year, with data center revenue alone climbing 107% to $6.7 billion. Adjusted EPS jumped 246% to $1.66, and operating margin improved to 17% from a 2% loss a year earlier. AMD has picked up customers once seen as Nvidia territory, including Oracle, Microsoft and OpenAI, and CEO Lisa Su says AMD has lined up 6 gigawatts of committed capacity apiece from OpenAI and Meta Platforms for its new MI450 chips and Helios racks. Su has pegged the AI data center chip market at $1.4 trillion annually by 2030 and forecasts that AMD's own data center sales will roughly double once more in 2027. Bear Case: Why A Good Quarter Still Sent The Stock Lower Despite that quarter, AMD shares fell, and the simplest explanation is that much of the good news was already baked into the price. The stock trades at nearly 70 times forward earnings, a multiple that assumes years of growth are already locked in. Some of AMD's headline growth rate is also flattered by an easy comparison: a US government ban on chip sales to China in April 2025 depressed AMD's results a year ago, making this year's percentage gain look larger than the underlying quarter-over-quarter trend, which came in at 16%. The Market's Read On The Stock Hedge fund ownership of AMD ticked up from 132 funds in the prior quarter to 134 in the most recent one, a modest increase suggesting institutional interest is holding steady rather than swinging hard either way. Short interest is low at 2.45% of float, showing little organized betting against the stock. Even so, AMD carries a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 65.36 as of August 7, a rich multiple that leaves the stock priced for the growth story to keep delivering rather than for any near-term stumble. Story Continues The Bet Investors Are Actually Making AMD's Taalas purchase and its data center numbers point to a company genuinely closing the gap on Nvidia in AI hardware, while its valuation shows the market has already given AMD substantial credit for doing so. The next several quarters of Helios shipments and MI450 adoption will show whether AMD's growth can keep outrunning a stock price that already assumes a lot goes right. How that plays out against Nvidia's own roadmap, more than the Taalas deal itself, is likely what decides where AMD's stock goes from here. While we acknowledge the potential of AMD as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on thebest short-term AI stock. AMD (AMD) Buys Taalas: Is AI Inference the Next Battleground With Nvidia?
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) just announced an acquisition that could give major competition to NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) in AI-inference. On August 6, AMD said it has agreed to buy chip startup Taalas as specialized inference chips become a critical area of focus for semiconductor makers. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The company plans to integrate Taalas' technology into its accelerator roadmap and develop system-level solutions combining it with AMD Instinct graphics processing units (GPUs). "AMD is building a full-stack AI platform that gives customers the flexibility to deploy the right compute solutions for every AI workload," Vamsi Boppana, senior vice president of AMD's Artificial Intelligence Group, said in a statement. AMD Expands its AI Inference Arsenal The acquisition strengthens AMD's AI portfolio by offering it differentiated inference performance and efficiency. The move also highlights the rising importance for leading GPU makers to offer integrated systems with several different components and chips rather than standalone processors. The acquisition itself follows a string of smaller inference-focused deals made by AMD. Back in November, the company acquired MK1, an AI software startup specializing in high-speed inference. It also acquired MEXT in June and added FastFlowLM to its artificial intelligence group in July. Together, these moves may strengthen AMD's AI inference capabilities to compete with giants such as Nvidia. Taalas's technology could also offer AMD both speed and lower costs. The company says that the HC1 demonstrator reportedly delivers around 17,000 tokens per second per user when running Llama 3.1 8B. It also claims that its systems can cost 20 times less to build and use 10 times less power because they avoid HBM, advanced packaging, and liquid cooling. AI Inference to Become the Next Nvidia Battleground AMD's latest buying spree follows merely months after NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) struck a $20 billion deal with Groq, a designer of high-performance AI chips, for its inference technology and talent. Nvidia chips have dominated the process of AI model training for quite some time, but its graphics processors face greater competition from central processing units and custom processors. Inference computing, the process of answering queries, occurs every time AI models are used. As AI assistants, coding agents, and similar applications handle billions of queries, factors such as latency, throughput, and power efficiency become increasingly important. Story Continues Through the Taalas acquisition, AMD has the opportunity to compete in an area where competition is less entrenched. The Bear Case: Execution Risk remains High While the Taalas acquisition may strengthen AMD's portfolio, AMD has neither disclosed the financial terms of the agreement or the revenue opportunity that comes from the acquisition. Investors will also need to judge its commercial impact, which can be done once the technology is integrated into AMD's broader product roadmap. Moreover, Taalas' biggest strength is also its biggest limitation. Taalas hardwires entire AI models directly into silicon instead of a general-purpose GPU, which means switching to a different model still requires making new chips. This could be a serious disadvantage in an industry where models evolve rapidly. Nvidia, meanwhile, has already incorporated technology from inference specialist Groq into its own AI roadmap. Hedge Fund Sentiment According to Insider Monkey Database, hedge fund interest in Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) remain strong. 134 hedge funds held stakes in AMD at the end of the first quarter of 2026, up from 132 in Q4 2025. Nvidia remained far more widely held, boasting 275 hedge funds, up from 264 in the previous quarter. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) has a short interest representing 2.5% of the public float, compar

Jim Cramer Shares Reasons Behind Why NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)’s Shares Are Finally Rising
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is a stock that Jim Cramer continues to stand by with, even though it has struggled. While it's unclear whether he's as loyal to it as he is to Costco, throughout 2026, the CNBC TV host has continued to assert that the firm provides a great long-term opportunity. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)'s shares are up by 17.5% year-to-date, fueled primarily by a 16.8% jump since July 29th. In a brief couple of tweets, Cramer first commented on t/he shares and then on Elon Musk's announcement that he would exclusively buy the firm's AI products: "you get a couple of reports that Nvidia chips are holding their value and are scarce and the stock soars. "If Elon hadn't gone all in Nvidia with what could be the biggest set of orders in the history of Nvidia then AMD's stock would have been up last night. The loss of that business overshadowed ANOTHER MONSTER quarter from Lisa Su. Listen: @SquawkStreet this a.m. "You have to spend to make Due to the centrality of its products for the AI ecosystem, the debate for NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is about AI spending. The bulls and the bears are torn between whether the spending will be sustainable or whether hyperscalers will reduce their budgets. Cramer's initial tweet also discusses this and addresses another key point about the resale value of the pricey AI GPUs. For the NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) bulls, the revenue growth rate, which was 85% in the first quarter, means that its valuation, such as a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple of 22.88, is too low. Additionally, they point to the firm's future potential by quoting NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)'s backlogs and bookings for the current Blackwell systems and the next-generation Vera Rubin AI GPUs. The firm is estimated to have a $500 billion chip backlog, while CEO Jensen Huang, as optimistic as ever, has projected $1 trillion in sales for the Blackwell and Rubin GPUs through 2027. However, the bears caution that potential tailwinds stemming from custom AI chips, circular deals and margin pressures could spell trouble in the future. According to the bears, deals such as those where NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) guarantees backstops for customers that buy it products can cause demand to appear inflated than it actually is. They also point towards high HBM memory chip costs to warn that NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) could experience margin erasure. As for Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD), the debate for the firm is similar to the one that was present when Intel was the dominant player in the global chip industry. The bulls and the bears are divided on whether Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) can become a genuine alternative or competitor to NVIDIA's advanced AI GPUs. The bulls are optimistic about the growing use of agentic AI due to its positive impact on CPU demand. While Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) makes CPUs and GPUs, NVIDIA is limited to GPUs and CPUs designed through Arm-based designs. However, the bears point towards other factors, such as $808 million in capital expenditure in the second quarter, which was significantly higher than analyst estimates of $299 million. Additionally, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD)'s forward P/E ratio of 66 is quite high and leads to debate about whether it can lead to headwinds in case of even the slightest weakness in financial performance. Story Continues The hedge funds clearly favor NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), though. During Q4 2025, 264 out of the 1,041 funds part of Insider Monkey's database had owned a stake, while this figure was 275 out of 1,022 in Q1 2026. On the other hand, 132 and 134 funds had owned AMD in Q4 and Q1, respectively, to indicate a more muted sentiment. Short interest as a percent of the float was 1.39% for NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), while it was 2.45% for AMD. Both firms were part of our list of 10 Blue Chip Stocks Jim Cramer is Crazy About. How the page works
How to read the score
It describes the weighted balance of qualifying headlines. A score of 50 can mean balanced news or that there is not enough evidence; the status label explains which.
Confidence measures depth, source breadth, direct relevance, freshness and agreement. It does not rise merely because the tone is extreme.
Weekly price response, trend and fair-value position test whether the market is accepting or rejecting the news. They never rewrite the news score.
It measures news already published. It is not a forecast, recommendation or price target.
