Tesla's Japan Sales Surging: Can Its Delivery Network Keep Up?

U.S. electric vehicle (EV) and tech giant Tesla TSLA is gaining momentum in a market that has historically been difficult for foreign automakers to crack. After selling more than 10,000 vehicles in Japan in 2025 (doubling from 2024), Tesla registered roughly 12,000 vehicles in the first six months of this year. June was particularly impressive, with registrations jumping 183.7% year over year to 3,997 vehicles from 1,411 a year earlier, per the data from the Japan Automobile Importers Association, as cited in EVwire. Tesla overtook BMW BMWKY to become Japan's second-best-selling imported brand

Mercedes Loses Ground in China's Premium Auto Market

After decades of winning over Chinese buyers with its German engineering, Mercedes-Benz Group AG sold only 1,153 units in China in the first half of 2026, a fraction of the more than 80,000 similarly priced SU7 sedans Xiaomi Corp. delivered in the period. The performance echoes the challenges BMW AG, Volkswagen AG and Porsche AG face in China, where they all reported second-quarter sales declines of at least 30%, worse than the overall market's drop. Bloomberg's William Wilkes reports. View Comments

Tesla in the spotlight as NFL's 49ers head coach says Autopilot may have been engaged during accident

Tesla (TSLA) is in the spotlight after news that the company's self-driving software may have played a part in an accident involving the head coach of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers. This comes as Tesla is ramping up its autonomous tech around the globe, a huge part of its future revenue story. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was injured in an accident on July 14 when his car veered onto oncoming traffic and hit another car head-on. Shanahan was adamant that he was the one at fault, not the other driver. However, in his first press appearance since the accident on Aug. 8, he added some new details. Sh

How the page works

How to read the score

Tone is directional

It describes the weighted balance of qualifying headlines. A score of 50 can mean a balanced tape or that direction has been withheld for insufficient evidence; the status label distinguishes them.

Confidence is separate

Confidence measures depth, source breadth, direct relevance, freshness and agreement. It does not rise merely because the tone is extreme.

Price is confirmation

Weekly price response, trend and fair-value position test whether the market is accepting or rejecting the news. They never rewrite the news score.

Classification, not prediction

The page describes completed evidence available at the stated time. It is research context, not a forecast, recommendation, target or execution instruction.
