Intel's $20B capital raise likely removes overhang, UBS says

Intel's (INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]) $20B capital raise announcement [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4630452-intel-upsizes-stock-offering-to-20b-prices-at-95] this week likely removes any overhang from the stock, investment firm UBS said on Wednesday. “When combined with pre-payments and financial commitments that we expect to accompany several forthcoming foundry deals (Google for EMIB-T, AAPL for M-Series, AMD, SPCX, and potentially a few more), we believe the raise will allow INTC to fund its foundry buildout,” UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri wrote in a note to clients. “Overall

Why Intel (INTC) Stock Is Down Today

What Happened? Shares of computer processor maker Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) fell 3.7% in the morning session after the company announced a plan to issue $15 billion in common stock. This move is expected to increase the total number of shares available, which can dilute the ownership stake of existing shareholders. When a company issues new stock, each existing share represents a smaller percentage of the company, often putting downward pressure on the stock price. The market's reaction reflects concerns over this potential dilution of value for current investors, as a larger supply of shares enters

Why Intel’s $20 Billion Stock Offering Is Actually a Great Sign for the Company

Shares of Intel have been under pressure this week since the chip maker announced a $20 billion stock offering. UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri wrote Wednesday that Intel’s $20 billion stock offering will “remove an overhang” for the stock as it will allow the chip maker to fund its foundry buildout. The stock offering will provide “bridge” funding through 2027 and 2028 for Intel, Arcuri wrote. Continue Reading

Intel Did Much Worse Than Super Micro Computer But Both Got Punished

Quick Read Intel (INTC) posted its strongest revenue growth in 15 years and Supermicro (SMCI) nearly doubled revenue, yet both stocks fell hard after earnings. Intel diluted existing shareholders by roughly one-fifth through a $15 billion stock offering, while Supermicro kept common equity dilution under 3% using debt. Intel's Foundry still bleeds $2.1 billion in operating losses and Supermicro carries an unresolved export-control review, making both difficult to underwrite now. Intel Stock Slips as $20 Billion Offering Expands Dilution

This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), the semiconductor giant fighting to reclaim its manufacturing edge, slipped approximately 0.1% in Tuesday's regular-session trading after turning an already enormous capital raise into an even bigger one. Intel boosted its stock offering from $15 billion to $20 billion, selling 210.5 million shares at $95 each. That should put roughly $19.7 billion of fresh cash on the balance sheet before any additional allotment. The deal is expected to close August 12. Intel clearly wants financial firepower, and it is raising it while investors

Intel makes another $15 billion vital move as AI demand accelerates

Time and again, I've seen the same movie at Intel, from different angles. From the layoffs, the 18A yield progress, the management restructuring, the CHIPS Act subsidies, and the Q2 beat, which was the company's strongest revenue growth in 15 years. Each piece of the puzzle has been pointing in the same direction: Artificial Intelligence (AI). These are just a few of the moves Intel has made. Recently, we saw Intel raise its 2026 capital expenditure estimates to more than $20 billion, from around $18 billion, to meet rising demand. August 10, Intel revealed how it intends to fund the next chap

Intel's huge rally is helping pay for its AI comeback: Chart of the Day

Intel's (INTC) AI ambitions are getting more expensive. Its 165% rally this year is helping foot the bill. The chipmaker said Monday it plans to raise $15 billion by selling new shares to investors, giving it fresh cash for factories, equipment, day-to-day operations, and other needs. That comes with a cost for existing shareholders. Selling new stock causes dilution, meaning each share represents a slightly smaller piece of the company. Intel's rally has dramatically reduced that cost. At Monday's close of roughly $98, Intel would need to sell about 153 million shares to raise $15 billion. At

Intel Stock Drops 4.5% as $15 Billion Share Sale Hits

This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), the chip giant betting billions on a manufacturing comeback, launched a massive $15 billion stock offering Monday, and investors immediately hit the brakes. But Intel also needs serious money. The company is burning through capital as it races to expand advanced manufacturing, packaging and foundry capacity, so management is striking whil

Intel Foundry Lands a Major New Client Worth Watching

Key Points Intel will manufacture Fortinet's next-generation Security Processor 6. The deal could help Intel challenge TSMC's dominance, particularly with security chips. Intel (INTC) Stock Looks Above Fair Value After a Very Large Run

Never miss an important update on your stock portfolio and cut through the noise. Over 7 million investors trust Simply Wall St to stay informed where it matters for FREE. Intel stock has delivered a very large 348.0% return over the past year, yet the valuation checks send a mixed message. The intrinsic value estimate based on a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model suggests the shares are roughly in line with fair value, while simple market multiples still screen Intel as undervalued. A 348.0% one year return puts Intel among the strongest movers in the Nasdaq this year. This can leave less room for error if expectations change. Heavy investment in AI focused manufacturing capacity and balance sheet funding can support long term cash flow growth. However, recent dilution from the US$20b share offering and rising competition in advanced chips may weigh on how much investors are willing to pay for that growth. Intel passes only 2 of 6 valuation checks. This points to a stock that does not look like a straightforward bargain on the broader metrics even after the recent pullback. The issue now is whether Intel's current price already reflects the intrinsic value suggested by cash flow estimates or still leaves a margin of safety for new investors. Intel delivered 348.0% returns over the last year. See how this stacks up to the rest of the Semiconductor industry. Is Intel Fairly Priced on Cash Flow? The Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model estimates what Intel might be worth based on projected future cash generation. Intel currently reports latest twelve month free cash flow of about US$4.8b in outflows, yet the model assumes that cash flows recover and grow over time as recent heavy investment starts to pay back. Based on those cash flow projections, the 2 Stage Free Cash Flow to Equity model arrives at an intrinsic value of about $89 per share. That compares with a current share price that sits roughly 9.5% above the DCF estimate. This suggests that Intel stock screens as slightly overvalued on this method. The recent US$20b share sale to fund AI focused manufacturing helps explain why the market may be pricing in a lot of future improvement already, even though the cash flows used in the model are still recovering from recent investment. On the DCF assumptions used here, Intel appears to be roughly fairly valued with only a small premium to the estimated intrinsic value. Intel is fairly valued according to our Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), but this can change at a moment's notice. Track the value in your watchlist or portfolio and be alerted on when to act. Story Continues INTC Discounted Cash Flow as at Aug 2026 Head to the Valuation section of our Company Report for more details on how we arrive at this Fair Value for Intel. Is Intel a Bargain on Sales? P/S is a useful way to look at Intel because the company is investing heavily and current earnings and free cash flow are not yet a clean guide. Intel trades on a P/S of about 8.6x, which sits above the semiconductor industry average of roughly 7.1x. However, the modelling here suggests a P/S closer to 12.4x for Intel once factors like size, margins and risk profile are taken into account. On that basis, the current P/S suggests the stock is trading at a discount to what this framework would indicate for the business. The peer group average P/S of 25.6x also sits well above Intel's current level, although peers can differ in product mix and growth exposure. Even so, this set of simple comparables suggests a stock that is not aggressively priced relative to its revenue base. On the P/S multiple, Intel stock appears undervalued relative to both the modelled ratio and the broader peer group.NasdaqGS:INTC P/S Ratio as at Aug 2026 See what the numbers say about this price — find out in our valuation breakdown. Intel (INTC) Now Has The U.S. Government As Its Largest Shareholder

Find your next quality investment with Simply Wall St's easy and powerful screener, trusted by over 7 million individual investors worldwide. The U.S. government has acquired roughly a 10% equity stake in Intel (NasdaqGS: INTC), becoming the chipmaker's largest shareholder. The stake is part of a wider program in which the government is taking positions in 30 publicly traded companies across sectors. The move raises questions for Intel investors about corporate governance, government influence, and potential policy trade offs. The unusual ownership structure is drawing scrutiny over possible impacts on Intel's relationships with regulators, suppliers, and large customers. The scale of this move points to a bigger shift in how governments back critical technology infrastructure, so it may be worth looking at related stocks through 57 AI infrastructure stocks.NasdaqGS:INTC 1-Year Stock Price Chart Intel is a large US semiconductor company with a market cap of about $491.9b that designs and manufactures computing hardware used across consumer, enterprise, and data center markets. Government ownership in a supplier this central to computing infrastructure can shape how policy, funding priorities, and industry coordination affect the broader chip sector. See which insiders are buying and selling Intel following this latest news. What a government stake signals for Intel's AI and foundry narrative Intel's investment story is built on the idea that a refocused, AI-centric and foundry-driven business can regain trust and win a bigger role in critical compute infrastructure, including against rivals like TSMC and Nvidia. "The strategic push toward developing best in class products for new and emerging AI workloads, along with refining their AI strategy, positions Intel to capture growth in an expanding market, likely boosting future revenue and market share..." Read the full Intel narrative to see the case behind these numbers The U.S. government becoming Intel's largest shareholder directly supports the Narrative catalyst around customer trust in its foundry and AI offerings. A major institutional investor with a policy focus on critical infrastructure can reinforce Intel's positioning as a long-term supplier for sensitive workloads where reliability and supply security matter as much as raw performance. At the same time, the stake puts pressure on the Narrative risk around organizational complexity and execution. Government involvement can raise fresh questions about decision speed, governance trade offs and capital allocation, especially after a US$20b share offering and heavy capex plans, which analysts already flag as important execution swing factors. Story Continues For readers, tying this government stake back to Intel's Narrative is what turns a headline about ownership into a clearer view of risk, reward and next steps for research. Intel's huge rally is helping pay for its AI comeback

In today's Chart of the Day, Yahoo Finance Markets & Data Editor Jared Blikre dives into Intel's (INTC) rally and how the chipmaker's surging stock price saved the company millions as it prepares to issue $20 billion in new common stock. Video Transcript 00:00 Brooke Break this down for us, what exactly is the reason behind all of this? 00:03 Jared All right. So I've got a two-day stock chart here. You can see over these last two days, Intel stock is down over 4%. Not a big drop, but why is that? Well, as you said, Intel was offering 15 billion yesterday, they actually upsized it overnight because they had enough demand to do that. So all in all, they sold 20 billion dollars worth of new shares. That means for existing shareholders, they own a smaller piece of the pie and that's why the share price is coming down. It's almost mechanical and almost any time that you see that, uh a company that's issuing more shares, you will see the stock price drop. So that's pretty common. But I want to highlight, and this is what I'm writing about in my chart of the day, uh this is just a one-year chart of Intel. and it was only last September that we were looking at strategic investments from the US government, then Nvidia, then Softbank. All of that was happening in here at about $20 to $23 per share, a little bit underneath, uh the current share price back then. So pretty cheap share price when you compare it today. Uh right now it's 96 94. at the peak here, it was $140. Now, when Intel is looking to buy to uh raise $20 billion, guess what? At a higher share price, they don't have to issue as many shares. And I've actually done the math here. Let me just show you how that works out. So, Intel's rally made new stock cheaper to issue. That's my thesis there. So at the stock price used, $95, that's what they were using overnight for the $20 billion. Uh that's 211 million shares or thereabout. Now, if they had tried to raise $20 billion last September, uh in that 20 to 23 range or actually $20.47, which is what Uncle Sam got, that would take 977 million shares, almost a billion. So they basically saved 80% fewer shares by that 165% rally that Intel has enjoyed year to date. So that's how the math works out. And yeah, they could have uh they could have issued even fewer shares if they had been able to sell at the very top. But this is a really good example of Intel using its share price as a means to uh take in more money. And this is something that we actually saw in the uh 2021 GameStop episode. It was AMC that was able to use their surging stock price to issue more stock. And I would say the difference between AMC then and Intel now is that Intel is building chip factories. Uh they have uh a very strong balance sheet and all of this money or most of it is probably going to go into the AI buildout. So, by no means are they probably done raising money, but this is a great example of using a share price rally to uh fund its operations. Back to you, Brooke. 02:21 Brooke Jared, such momentum when it comes to that stock. We've been watching it all year long, since last year, too, and definitely, we'll keep a close eye on it. Thanks so much for bringing that all down. 02:34 Brooke And we also just showed you Yahoo Finance's Alpha Space platform. Can NVIDIA's Vera CPU Challenge Intel and AMD's Market Dominance?

NVIDIA Corporation NVDA is taking a bigger step into the CPU (Central Processing Unit) market with its Vera processor, designed specifically for agentic artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. The move could give NVIDIA another growth engine while increasing pressure on established server CPU leaders Intel Corporation INTC and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD. NVIDIA's Vera CPU is up to 1.8 times faster than x86 processors on workloads. The Vera CPU is designed to work closely with NVIDIA GPUs (graphics processing units), networking and software, allowing customers to build complete AI systems rather than relying on separate CPU and accelerator platforms. This integrated approach could be particularly attractive as AI agents require more computing power for reasoning, planning and data processing. Vera CPU is also gaining support from major technology companies. Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX are among the AI organizations planning to adopt the platform, while Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company, Lenovo and Super Micro Computers are preparing Vera-based systems. NVIDIA's AI ecosystem gives Vera CPU an additional advantage and could help it gain meaningful server CPU share. The traction of Vera CPU will further boost NVIDIA's data center end-market business. The company's data center revenues reached a record $75.25 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, rising 92% year over year. Analysts' projections suggest that the growth momentum in the data center business will continue. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for NVIDIA's data center revenues is pegged at $363.78 billion, indicating year-over-year growth of approximately 88%. NVIDIA's Rivals Have Deep CPU Expertise to Defend Their Lead NVIDIA's Vera CPU enters a market where Advanced Micro Devices and Intel have established customer relationships and large server CPU businesses. AMD is the more direct growth challenger. Its data center revenues surged 107% year over year to $6.72 billion in the second quarter of 2026, driven by strong demand for EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs. Advanced Micro Devices is also seeing rising demand from AI workloads, including agentic AI, which directly overlaps with Vera's target market. Its broad CPU-and-GPU portfolio gives customers an alternative to NVIDIA's integrated platform. Intel remains a major force in server CPUs through its Xeon portfolio. Its data center and AI business generated $6.26 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up 59% year over year. Intel's latest Xeon processors are also designed to handle AI workloads, helping the company defend its position as AI increases demand for high-performance CPUs. Story Continues NVIDIA has an important advantage because Vera is designed to work closely with its GPUs, networking and software. However, AMD's rapid growth and Intel's large installed base mean NVIDIA will need to prove that Vera can deliver clear performance and efficiency benefits before it can seriously disrupt the CPU market. NVIDIA's Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates Shares of NVIDIA have risen around 16.6% year to date, underperforming the Zacks Computer and Technology sector's gain of 18.1%. NVIDIA YTD Price Return PerformanceZacks Investment Research Image Source: Zacks Investment Research From a valuation standpoint, NVDA trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 19.93, below the sector's average of 21.59. NVIDIA Forward 12-Month P/E RatioZacks Investment Research Image Source: Zacks Investment Research The Zacks Consensus Estimate for NVIDIA's fiscal 2027 and 2028 earnings implies a year-over-year increase of approximately 90.6% and 38.3%, respectively. At that level, the pricing would represent a discount of 6.5% to Friday's closing price, according to Bloomberg calculations. The offering could increase to well over $20 billion if a so-called over-allotment option is exercised, one of the people said. The share sale has drawn more than $100 billion in demand, they said. Deliberations are ongoing and details including the size and pricing could still change, the people said. A spokesperson for Intel declined to comment. JPMorgan Chase & Co., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Morgan Stanley and Citigroup Inc. are working on the offering, according to a statement earlier. The deal is multiple times oversubscribed, Bloomberg News reported. Intel's shares were little changed in after-hours trading after falling 4.1% on Monday during normal market hours. They remain up roughly 164% this year, after Chief Executive Officer Lip-Bu Tan made cleaning up Intel's finances a priority. The effort has included attracting outside investments from the US government and even chip rivals such as Nvidia Corp. The year's biggest US equity offerings have been dominated by companies riding the boom in artificial intelligence spending. Alphabet Inc. is in the process of raising as much as $85 billion through equity offerings, including so-called at-the-market share sales and equity-linked deals. And Oracle Corp.'s fundraising plans include a $20 billion at-the-market share sale program. Synopsys (SNPS) Just Locked Into Intel’s (INTC) Next Chip Node. What’s The Payoff?

Synopsys (NASDAQ:SNPS) just extended its grip on the leading edge of chipmaking. On July 27, at the DAC Chips to Systems Conference, the company said it has certified its AI-powered design software for Intel's (NASDAQ:INTC) upcoming 14A manufacturing process, building on flows it already runs in production on Intel's 18A and 18A-P nodes.Synopsys (SNPS) Just Locked Into Intel's (INTC) Next Chip Node. What's The Payoff? Bull Case: A Toolmaker Chipmakers Can't Design Without Synopsys's software and intellectual property sit underneath most of the advanced chips built today, and that is hard to dislodge once an engineering team standardizes around it. The Intel 14A work deepens that position. It folds power, thermal, and electromagnetic analysis directly into the design flow, and it extends Synopsys's 3DIC Compiler platform to support Intel's EMIB and EMIB-T packaging so engineers can plan multi-die chips instead of bolting dies together after the fact. New interface IP tied to the node, including PCIe 7.0 and 224G SerDes, is aimed at shaving time off getting a chip to tapeout. The financial story tracks that positioning. Synopsys posted 42% year-over-year revenue growth in its fiscal 2026 second quarter and raised its full-year guidance, a sign demand from chipmakers is still climbing rather than leveling off. A separate look at fiscal 2025 showed revenue near $7.1 billion, up roughly 15.1%, with net income around $1.3 billion. Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) has expanded its own partnership with Synopsys alongside a $2 billion investment, and a Murata Manufacturing collaboration has already broadened the company's thermal and electromagnetic simulation models, the same multiphysics ground the Intel news now covers. Bear Case: Integration Costs Are Doing The Talking Right Now The stock has not moved in step with the business. Shares are down 12% year-to-date even as the company keeps taking share in its market, a gap that points to a valuation reset rather than a demand problem. Much of that comes back to the $35 billion Ansys acquisition. The deal expanded Synopsys well past chip design into broader engineering simulation, but the amortization tied to it has weighed on margins, and folding a company that size in carries real risk of operational friction and synergies that arrive slower than planned. There is also a cash-quality wrinkle worth flagging. Stock-based compensation ran to roughly 58.8% of operating cash flow, which means the free cash flow figure leans heavily on a non-cash add-back rather than pure operating strength. On top of that, Synopsys is managing multiple class-action lawsuits alleging misstatements around its intellectual property segment, and a settlement with activist investor Elliott Investment Management leaves open the possibility of strategic changes ahead. Story Continues Where The Market Has Its Doubts Hedge fund ownership slipped from 91 funds to 84 in the most recent quarter, a pullback that suggests some institutional investors trimmed positions even as the business grew. Short interest tells a different story: at just 2.94% of float, there is little organized betting against the stock. Shares trade at 24.10 times forward earnings as of August 10, a multiple that assumes continued growth but is not stretched for a company still expanding revenue at a double-digit clip. The Bottom Line Synopsys enters its next chapter with a stronger technical foothold and a messier balance sheet story than a year ago. The Intel 14A certification and the Nvidia and Murata relationships point to a company still setting the pace in chip design tools. For the bullish view to play out, the Ansys integration needs to stop weighing on margins and start adding to them. While we acknowledge the potential of SNPS as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tari

Intel (INTC) Tripled This Year, But Can a $15B Share Sale Stop the Momentum?

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) shares have nearly tripled this year, outrunning AMD (NASDAQ:AMD), Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index's nearly 75% climb. On August 10, the company said it would sell $15 billion of new stock to fund its push into contract chip manufacturing, and shares fell more than 4% in early trading. That marked a significant shift for a company experiencing a notable operational turnaround in the semiconductor sector.Intel (INTC) Tripled This Year, But Can a $15B Share Sale Stop the Momentum? Bull Case: The AI Boom Finally Shows Up In The Numbers Intel's data center and AI segment grew revenue 59% year-over-year in the second quarter, accelerating from 22% growth in the first quarter, as the shift toward AI agents pushed CPU demand past what Intel's factories could supply. Total revenue rose 25% year over year, the fastest pace in more than 15 years. Nvidia chose Intel's Xeon 6 platform to host its DGX Rubin NVL8 systems, evidence that even AI's biggest winner still needs Intel's chips. Margins are catching up to the growth: operating margin jumped to 39.5% from 16.1% a year earlier, and gross margin rose to 41.8% from 29.7%. Adjusted net income, which excludes one-time charges, climbed from $1.5 billion in the first quarter to $2.2 billion in the second, alongside $7.0 billion of operating cash flow. The foundry side is landing real customers too. Foundry revenue grew 31% to $5.8 billion, and Intel committed to high-volume production on its 14A process in 2028, after once warning the technology could be shelved. Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) signed on as a 14A customer, and hopes for a second marquee client grew after President Trump said Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) would make processors with Intel, though neither side confirmed it. Bear Case: The Bill For All That Growth Keeps Climbing That growth is not free. Intel's capex totaled $12.1 billion over the trailing 12 months and is accelerating, with management raising this year's guidance from $18 billion to $20 billion in July and warning that 2027 spending will be "significantly above" this year's levels. The foundry unit meant to justify that spending still lost $2.1 billion in the quarter. Investors have not been forgiving: Intel shares fell 35.4% in July as a broader chip sell-off wiped out $1 trillion of value across the 20 largest semiconductor companies, and the stock dropped more than 8% the day second quarter results came out. The reported losses add to the unease, even if the accounting behind them is unusual. Intel's trailing 12-month net loss runs about $11.3 billion, driven mostly by a $12.5 billion non-cash charge tied to shares held in escrow under its CHIPS Act agreement. As investment director Russ Mould put it, Intel spent the 2010s "wrecking its own balance sheet" with $82 billion of buybacks, which is part of why raising equity now, after the stock's five-fold climb since last August, "makes perfect sense." Story Continues What The Positioning Data Shows Hedge fund ownership rose to 112 funds last quarter from 96 the quarter before, pointing to accumulating institutional conviction. Short interest is just 2.4% of the float, a level that shows little organized skepticism. Yet the stock trades at 80 times forward earnings as of August 10, a multiple that already assumes the turnaround keeps compounding. That combination, rising ownership against a stretched multiple, helps explain why a $15 billion share sale landed as unwelcome news rather than routine financing. Where This Leaves Investors Intel's turnaround case rests on real numbers: accelerating AI demand, expanding margins, and a foundry business finally landing customers like Tesla. The counter case is just as real, since capital spending is climbing faster than foundry profits and the stock already prices in years of execution that haven't happened yet. The $15 billion raise cuts both ways, funding the buildout while diluting shareholders at a moment the market was already nervous

Why Intel Stock Is Falling Today

This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) shares fell about 3% Monday after the chipmaker moved to raise $15 billion through a common-stock sale, seeking additional funding as it expands its AI and manufacturing efforts. Intel said the offering could include another $2.25 billion in shares if underwriters exercise a 30-day purchase option. The company plans to direct the net proceeds toward general corporate needs, including capital spending and working capital. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 6 Warning Signs with INTC. Is INTC fairly valued? Test your thesis with our free DCF calculator. Intel is targeting growth areas such as AI computing, physical AI, custom silicon and advanced chip packaging. The company is also seeking to expand its external wafer business, where it manufactures chips for outside customers. The financing comes as Intel increases spending on its manufacturing strategy. Reuters reported that Intel has raised its 2026 capital-expenditure outlook to $20 billion from $18 billion as it works to compete more closely with leading foundry operator TSMC. Intel said the capital raise is intended to support growth while preserving its balance sheet and investment-grade credit profile. The share sale could also increase the number of outstanding shares, potentially diluting existing investors. View Comments

Dan Niles sees Intel foundry win as imminent amid $15B stock offering

Investing.com -- Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) launched a $15 billion underwritten public offering of common stock on Monday, sending shares down roughly 2% intraday while one prominent investor called the move a bullish signal that the chipmaker is on the verge of landing a major foundry customer. Intel Foundry Services would be the direct beneficiary of any large-scale 14A anchor win, with the entire capital raise framed around funding capacity for external wafer production — a business line that would transform Intel's revenue mix and margin profile if it scales. The offering includes a 30-day greenshoe option allowing underwriters — J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Citigroup, to purchase up to an additional $2.25 billion in shares, potentially bringing the total raise to $17.25 billion. Based on Intel's reported 5.044 billion shares outstanding as of July 17, 2026, the base offering represents roughly 3% dilution, with the full greenshoe pushing that figure to approximately 3.4%. Intel shares touched an intraday low near $96.31 on Monday, before rebounding, as investors weighed the dilution against the strategic rationale. Dan Niles, founder of Niles Investment Management, pushed back on the bearish read. Speaking on Monday, Niles framed the equity raise as confirmation that Intel is "close to signing up one or more major foundry customers, which is very capital intensive, and they need a lot more capacity to ramp it." He added: "This offering today increases my conviction they are on the path to being 'super successful.'" The phrase "super successful" is no accident. On Intel's July 23, 2026 Q2 earnings call, CFO David Zinsner telegraphed exactly this moment. "We feel like we're in a really good place from a balance sheet perspective. We have over $30 billion of cash. We have a $10 billion revolver," Zinsner said, before adding the conditional that now looks prescient: "if we're super successful, which we're driving to, we may need to tap the capital markets to drive…some more investment." Intel reported Q2 2026 revenue of $16.1 billion, up 25% year over year, with non-GAAP EPS of $0.42. The company guided Q3 2026 revenue in a $15.8 billion to $16.8 billion range. Despite the strong print, the lingering question heading into Monday was which foundry customers would justify a meaningful acceleration in capital spending. Intel has already raised its 2026 capex forecast from $18 billion to $20 billion, with Zinsner signaling a "meaningful increase" in 2027 as the company targets high-volume manufacturing on its 14A process node in 2028. Story Continues Intel's official release cited proceeds as targeting physical AI, purpose-built silicon, advanced packaging, and external wafers. That last phrase drew immediate attention from industry analysts. Ben Bajarin, CEO and Principal analyst at Creative Strategies, said, "[t]ell me you have an external wafer customer without telling me you have an external wafer customer." Reuters separately reported that Tesla has signed on as a customer for Intel's 14A node, though Intel has not publicly confirmed a formal agreement with Tesla or any other 14A anchor customer. Niles outlined three overlapping paths to value for Intel: a higher ratio of CPUs to GPUs in Agentic AI applications, advanced packaging, and Intel's role as the U.S. national foundry champion, a designation that carries both commercial and geopolitical weight as Washington pushes for domestic semiconductor capacity. Intel's first publicly named foundry customer under CEO Lip-Bu Tan was Fortinet, on the older Intel 4 node, making a large-scale 14A win a qualitatively different milestone. At current balance-sheet levels, Intel carries $29.7 billion in cash and short-term investments against $48.5 billion in total debt. The $15 billion raise improves that liquidity position ahead of what management has described as a multiyear build-out. Niles noted he expects more details on the customer pipeline to emerge through indust

Intel stock stumbles following blockbuster $15 billion equity offering

Investing.com -- Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shares dipped 3.3% after the chipmaker dropped a surprise announcement: a proposed $15 billion underwritten public offering of common stock. While the massive capital raise will dilute current shareholders, Intel's leadership is framing it as a strategic power move. The company plans to funnel the net proceeds directly into general corporate coffers, heavy-duty capital expenditures, and day-to-day working capital to fuel its ongoing turnaround. Management pointed to surging, sustained customer demand for AI compute as the catalyst behind the move. Intel is aggressively targeting high-growth sectors, highlighting milestones in: Physical AI Purpose-built silicon Advanced packaging External wafers Despite the massive cash injection, Intel insists it is keeping a tight grip on fiscal discipline, promising to align every dollar with concrete customer demand and strict return expectations while fiercely protecting its investment-grade credit rating. Its ‌shares fell more than 3% in premarket trading, likely on concerns about shareholder dilution from the stock sale. The shares have more than doubled this year, ‌outperforming rivals. Intel plans to give underwriters a 30-day option to buy up to $2.25 billion ‌worth of additional shares at the offer price, minus discounts. JPMorgan Securities, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Citigroup Global Markets are ‌joint book-running managers.
