Prudential, HSBC and Stan Chart tumble as China closes offshore tax loophole
Shares of Prudential, HSBC, and Standard Chartered fell significantly after reports that Chinese authorities began taxing returns from offshore insurance policies. This move by China to close a long-standing regulatory loophole, including a 20% tax on returns from Hong Kong-sold policies, is expected to reduce the appeal of offshore insurance products for wealthy mainland Chinese customers. Prudential is particularly exposed due to its significant business in Hong Kong and mainland China, while HSBC and Standard Chartered are affected by broader concerns over stricter scrutiny of offshore wealth.

How to read the score
It describes the weighted balance of qualifying headlines. A score of 50 can mean balanced news or that there is not enough evidence; the status label explains which.
Confidence measures depth, source breadth, direct relevance, freshness and agreement. It does not rise merely because the tone is extreme.
Weekly price response, trend and fair-value position test whether the market is accepting or rejecting the news. They never rewrite the news score.
It measures news already published. It is not a forecast, recommendation or price target.
