Why Tesla Doesn't Need to Win China's Brutal EV Price War
Tesla's TSLA July vehicle sales numbers in China point in opposite directions. Deliveries in the country fell nearly 33% year on year to 27,249 vehicles and 48.51% month over month, per CnEVPost. On the surface, it looks like the company is losing ground in the world's biggest electric vehicle (EV) market. But in the same month, exports from Tesla's Shanghai plant hit 66,330 units, up 143.24% year on year and 83.38% from June, a new monthly record beating the previous high set in October 2022. Tesla Just Keeps Crashing: One of Wall Street’s Most Outspoken Names Sees 80% Gains Anyway
Quick Read Dan Ives assigns Tesla a $600 target by valuing it as an AI-robotics company, despite a 38% Q2 EPS miss and negative free cash flow. Elon Musk could get his near-$1 trillion payday a lot sooner if SpaceX buys Tesla
While much was made of Elon Musk becoming a trillionaire earlier this year, the world's richest man could see his fortune near or top $2 trillion if he decides to use SpaceX [NASDAQ: SPCX] to acquire Tesla [NASDAQ: TSLA]. Speculation has been growing steadily since the SpaceX IPO that Musk could consolidate his business empire, though he has made no public comments about doing so. Should he decide to, however, The Wall Street Journal reports such a move could trigger a clause in Musk's contract that would accelerate a tremendous payday package, which the company approved last November. Verdek Renews Florida Sheriffs Association Cooperative Purchasing Contract, Adds Tesla Supercharger to an Expanded EV Charging Lineup
MONROE, Conn., Aug. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Verdek, LLC, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure solutions, announced today that its contract under the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) Cooperative Purchasing Program for Electric Vehicle Charging, Power Stations, Equipment & Software (FSA26-PWR5.0) has been renewed for an additional two years, extending Verdek's status as an awarded vendor through June 30, 2028. The renewal arrives with major news for Florida's public agencies: the Tesla Supercharger (V4) is now available under FSA26-PWR5.0 for the first time, giving sheriffs' offices, counties, municipalities, school districts, and other eligible purchasers a compliant, pre-competed path to Tesla's DC fast-charging platform through Verdek — without requiring a separate RFP. Tesla Supercharger Now on Contract The addition of the Tesla V4 Supercharger is one of the most significant updates to the FSA26-PWR5.0 award since it was first issued. Tesla's Supercharger network is among the most widely used and reliable DC fast-charging platforms in North America, and its inclusion gives Florida agencies a new high-power charging option as electric fleets across the state continue to grow. A Wider Charger Lineup from Verdek Beyond Tesla, the renewed contract carries a substantially expanded product lineup — 22 awarded items spanning 9 manufacturers across four equipment categories: Level 2 Chargers — Autel MaxiCharger and ChargePoint CT4000 / CP6000 series DC Fast Charging — ABB, Autel MaxiCharger DC, ChargePoint Express Plus, Samsung, Tesla, and Tritium Portable / Mobile Charging & Power Stations — Charge Rigs FLEXX and Lincoln Electric Velion Mobile Software & Equipment — ampUp EVCloud charger management software This breadth gives Florida purchasers the flexibility to standardize on a single vendor while choosing the hardware that best fits each site — from single-port workplace charging to high-power DC fast-charging hubs. "Being able to renew this contract — and expand it to include Tesla — is a significant milestone for Verdek and for the agencies we serve across Florida," said Guy Mannino, CEO of Verdek. "Public safety agencies, municipalities, and school districts are all under pressure to modernize their fleets, and this renewal gives them a wider set of proven charging technologies to choose from, all through one streamlined, pre-competed contract." "We are pleased to welcome Verdek as an awarded vendor on this contract," said Megan Taber, Director of the Florida Sheriffs Association Cooperative Purchasing Program. "Through our competitive solicitation process, we strive to provide public agencies with high-quality procurement solutions that promote competition, value, and choice." Michael Burry Has a Stark Warning for Investors Betting on Today's Market
This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Michael Burry (Trades, Portfolio) renewed his criticism of current U.S. market valuations over the weekend, arguing that investors are placing too little weight on price and fundamentals. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 5 Warning Signs with TSLA. Is TSLA fairly valued? Test your thesis with our free DCF calculator. Burry, known for his bearish market calls, pointed to several technology and industrial names among his concerns. His holdings or bearish positions have included Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU), Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT), Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ:PLTR) and Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA). His comments followed a sharp move in Palantir, which gained nearly 37% during the week after the company delivered better-than-expected second-quarter 2026 results. Burry has previously questioned whether rising valuations can be supported by underlying business performance. Burry compared the current environment with the period before the dot-com downturn, when investors largely ignored valuation concerns. He argued that markets eventually returned to a point where price mattered, leaving some investors exposed when sentiment reversed. Burry also referenced the collapse of Long-Term Capital Management and the subsequent technology selloff as examples of periods when market prices eventually reflected underlying risks. His latest remarks suggest he expects valuation concerns to become more important if market conditions change. View Comments

In Texas, Elon Musk's empire could soon add a $10 billion Tesla solar plant
Photo Credit: Getty Images According to state records filed in Texas, Tesla may be considering another major expansion in the state, this time focused on manufacturing solar cells and further expanding CEO Elon Musk's growing manufacturing footprint there. What's happening? The Houston Chronicle reported that recent school district property tax abatements filed in August that relate to the project show Tesla is considering a $10.1 billion facility in Fort Bend County set to be completed by 2029. The application outlines that the investment would create 1,150 construction jobs over a three-year period, the outlet reported. Tesla also said it is considering another possible site and wrote that tax incentives through Texas' Jobs, Energy, Technology and Innovation program "would help to establish the Fort Bend County site as economically competitive in relation to the other site." If it moves forward, the plant would become the second massive manufacturing proposal linked to Musk's companies in the Houston region. The Houston Chronicle reported that SpaceX and Tesla have also outlined a $16.8 billion semiconductor facility in Grimes County that is expected to create 3,000 jobs. The prospect also reflects a wider economic pattern in the region. Citing Greater Houston Partnership figures, the Houston Chronicle said advanced manufacturing supported nearly 240,000 jobs in the Houston area in 2025, representing about 7% of the workforce and nearly 17% of regional GDP. Why does it matter? The potential project in Fort Bend County could bolster U.S. solar manufacturing at a time when energy prices and supply-chain reliability remain important concerns for both families and businesses. Over time, more domestic production could improve access to solar equipment and other clean energy products as consumers look for ways to cut utility costs and limit exposure to volatile fuel markets. A project of this size could also support related work in construction, logistics, and local services. The proposed facility also arrives as Tesla seeks additional avenues for growth beyond car sales. As cleaner electricity and cleaner transportation become more connected, expanded solar manufacturing could eventually contribute to lower-cost charging, more choices for home energy, and more opportunities to reduce the cost of owning a vehicle. What's being done? Tesla is pursuing a local tax-abatement package while it evaluates whether Fort Bend County can beat out at least one rival location. Those kinds of incentives are meant to attract projects that promise major investment and job creation. Story Continues The proposal also matches a broader economic-development focus in the Houston area, where business leaders have continued to highlight advanced manufacturing as a major opportunity. A solar cell facility would support that goal by expanding Houston's position in energy technology, not only conventional energy production. Tesla said, as the Houston Chronicle reported, the stakes are high for Texas. "Should Tesla make the decision to develop the proposed project in another state, Texas would miss the opportunity to attract billions of dollars in investment, help create thousands of full-time jobs for its residents, and become a hub for domestic solar cell manufacturing in the U.S." Get TCD's free newsletters for easy tips, smart advice, and a chance to earn $5,000 toward home upgrades. Larry Fink says Americans’ retirement savings need to fund $10 trillion AI infrastructure demands. Protect your wealth
Moneywise and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue through links in the content below. Tech giants are expected to spend trillions of dollars on AI infrastructure in the coming years as they race to build the data centers, chips and energy capacity needed to support artificial intelligence. McKinsey previously estimated that AI-related data center infrastructure could require up to $7 trillion in investment by 2030 (1). That's more than the size of Germany and Spain's GDP combined, per World Bank data (2). Must Read Jeff Bezos backs a platform that lets anyone invest in rental homes for as little as $100 — 6 ways to build wealth like a landlord without actually being one JPMorgan still sees gold hitting $5,000/oz by Q4 — and savvy investors are protecting their wealth with a tax-advantaged Gold IRA. Learn more with a free guide from Priority Gold The tax breaks in Trump's 'big beautiful bill' expire after 2028 — and experts say most people won't act in time. What to do before the window closes The question is: Where will all that money come from? BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) CEO Larry Fink believes ordinary Americans could help provide some of that capital — not by writing checks themselves, but through the retirement accounts and investments that own stakes in the companies leading the AI race. "If we can get more and more Americans to think about growing with the United States, we will have far [more] than enough money to invest in this infrastructure," Fink said earlier this year at Texas State Technical College in Waco alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott (3). At the time, Fink estimated the nationwide buildout of data centers and energy infrastructure could total $10 trillion over the next 10 years. Since then, the AI arms race has only picked up speed. Tech giants are spending tens of billions of dollars to build the data centers, buy the chips and secure the electricity needed to power the next generation of AI. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Meta (NASDAQ: META) are among the companies leading that charge — and their massive AI investments are one reason so many investors' portfolios are increasingly tied to the success of this technology. Here's how some of your retirement funds are already exposed to this colossal spending spree on a technology that could reshape the way millions of people work. Ordinary Americans are exposed to the AI boom Your 401(k) plan is likely exposed to the AI boom, even if you're not aware of it. Story Continues That's because a growing number of workers and savers have turned to passively investing in index funds in recent years, even as tech giants have become a larger part of these indexes. As of April 2026, Americans collectively had $20.82 trillion invested in index mutual funds and ETFs, according to the Investment Company Institute (4). But there's a catch: Many of these supposedly diversified funds have become increasingly concentrated in a handful of mega-cap technology companies. At the end of 2025, 41% of the S&P 500's market cap was concentrated in just the top 10 stocks, including familiar names like Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), according to RBC Wealth Management (5). These tech giants are leading the data center and utility spending spree. "America is now one big bet on AI," Ruchir Sharma wrote in the Financial Times (6). "AI better deliver for the U.S., or its economy and markets will lose the one leg they are now standing on." As one of the largest index fund providers (7) in the country, BlackRock has a front-row seat to this concentrated bet on AI. This is why Larry Fink's comments are worth your attention. If the thought of your retirement savings being increasingly tied to the success of this one industry makes you uneasy, there are ways to protect yourself. Byrna, Lucid, Park-Ohio, JELD-WEN, and Tesla Shares Skyrocket, What You Need To Know
Byrna, Lucid, Park-Ohio, JELD-WEN, and Tesla Shares Skyrocket, What You Need To Know What Happened? A number of stocks jumped in the afternoon session after the July jobs report showed an unexpected loss of 23,000 jobs, signaling a cooling labor market. Economists had forecast a gain of around 80,000 nonfarm payrolls. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate held steady at 4.1%. This weaker-than-expected data led investors to bet on the possibility of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve. The logic, often described as "bad news is good news" for the market, suggests that a slowing economy could deter the central bank from further rate hikes, and potentially encourage cuts to stimulate growth. This outlook generally makes borrowing cheaper for companies and increases the relative attractiveness of stocks. Lower rates are particularly beneficial for growth companies because they reduce the discount rate applied to future earnings, boosting the present value of cash flows that extend further out. The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks. Among others, the following stocks were impacted: Law Enforcement Suppliers company Byrna(NASDAQ:BYRN) jumped 3.9%.Is now the time to buy Byrna? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. Automobile Manufacturing company Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA) jumped 3.9%.Is now the time to buy Tesla? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. Zooming In On JELD-WEN (JELD) JELD-WEN's shares are extremely volatile and have had 79 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business. The previous big move we wrote about was 3 days ago when the stock gained 18% on the news that the company reported second-quarter results that beat analyst estimates and raised its full-year profit forecast. The company announced revenue of $817.8 million, which was flat year-over-year but surpassed expectations of $792.6 million. More impressively, adjusted EBITDA of $42.3 million significantly beat Wall Street's estimates of $29.4 million. The adjusted loss per share of $0.11 also came in better than the anticipated loss of $0.14. Looking ahead, JELD-WEN lifted its full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance, now forecasting a range of $120 million to $150 million, signaling management's increased confidence for the remainder of the year. Story Continues JELD-WEN is down 23.6% since the beginning of the year, and at $1.90 per share, it is trading 72% below its 52-week high of $6.76 from September 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of JELD-WEN's shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $68.83. ALSO WORTH WATCHING: Nvidia's Quiet Partner. Nvidia's chips cost a hundred grand. The connectors that make them work cost even more. One company makes them all. Every AI server needs specialized infrastructure the chip companies don't make. High-speed cables. Power connectors. Everything’s bigger in Texas: Musk’s planned $16.8 billion chip factory is five times bigger than the world’s current largest building
Elon Musk is betting that the next phase of his sprawling technology empire will require a building on a scale that has never existed before. SpaceX and Tesla are building Terafab, a 100-million-square-foot semiconductor manufacturing facility in Grimes County, Texas, more than five times the size of the world's largest building. "Terafab Texas will be the largest and most valuable building on Earth by far. And it will be stunningly beautiful," Musk wrote on X. With about 18.9 million square feet of floor space, the New Century Global Center in Chengdu, China, currently holds the record for the world's largest building. But Terafab is expected to exceed that quickly: "The first phase of the Terafab project represents a capital investment of more than $16.8 billion and will create 3,000 new jobs," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a press release. The accompanying vision is even more ambitious than the building itself. The Terafab website describes the project as a vertically integrated chip factory that will combine logic, memory, and advanced packaging under one roof. Both SpaceX and Tesla will benefit from the facility, which is designed to produce more than 1 terawatt of compute annually. "We're now embarking on the most epic chip-building effort—combining logic, memory, and advanced packaging all under one roof," said Musk in a press release. The project seeks to "close the gap" between the chip production necessary for today and the demand for future production when humanity, according to Musk, eventually embarks on space travel. "Terafab is bringing cutting-edge manufacturing to America, creating thousands of high-paying jobs," he continued, "and enabling us to produce AI chips at scale for use on Earth and in space." Building a future—vertically Terafab is less of a conventional semiconductor factory rather than an attempt by Musk to build an enormous piece of his own technology supply chain. Both companies expect their combined demand for computing power to eventually exceed 1 terawatt. Terafab will bring chip manufacturing, packaging, and testing into one singular operation. The project aspires to launch a galactic civilization by harnessing "all of the energy on a planet," echoing Musk's sci-fi dreams. Terafab's website ties the factory to Musk's longer-term vision of AI infrastructure. According to the site, the project is intended to produce AI chips at scale, supporting a vision that includes as many as 1 million Tesla Optimus robots, 10 million tons of mass launched into orbit annually, and more than 1 terawatt of solar power. Story Continues SpaceX went public in June, raising $75 billion by selling 555.56 million shares at $135 apiece. While the company had an initial valuation of about $1.77 trillion at the time, the public markets have already forced investors to confront the costs behind Musk's ambitions. SpaceX reported a $541 million loss in its first quarterly earnings report as a public company, despite generating $7.8 billion in revenue. The $16.8 billion announced for Terafab is only the initial investment. Musk hopes to use taxpayer dollars to offset some of the costs associated with building the largest single property in the world. The project has filed eight tax incentive applications with the two local school districts, asking to freeze school maintenance and operations property taxes at roughly 48% of appraised value for 10 years per phase. Terafab is asking the state to cover the difference of the maintenance and operations (M&0) and interest and sinking (I&S) taxes using the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation, or JETI, program. The company's explanation for the tax breaks centered on the cost differential between Texas and "competing jurisdictions," it wrote in the applications. "Absent the limitation, the project IRR would fall below the minimum investment threshold, and competing jurisdictions (e.g., Arizona) would present a more favorable after-tax return," the application read, "i

SpaceX Stock Pauses After Lockup Rally Ahead of the Next Share Unlock
SpaceX stock was jumping again Monday—chasing its highest close for a month after snapping a four-week losing run on Friday with a 16% surge following the end of a lockup period for shares. The Elon Musk-led satellite and artificial-intelligence company’s shares were rising 1.9% to 135.63 as investors regained appetite for the stock, which has had a torrid time since its closing high of $201.80 on June 16—reached shortly after its initial public offering on June 12. Wall Street had widely braced for severe selling pressure on Thursday, when SpaceX’s first lockup expiration freed roughly 911 million restricted insider shares. Continue Reading

How the page works
How to read the score
It describes the weighted balance of qualifying headlines. A score of 50 can mean balanced news or that there is not enough evidence; the status label explains which.
Confidence measures depth, source breadth, direct relevance, freshness and agreement. It does not rise merely because the tone is extreme.
Weekly price response, trend and fair-value position test whether the market is accepting or rejecting the news. They never rewrite the news score.
It measures news already published. It is not a forecast, recommendation or price target.
